Principal's Message

It has been an incredible year at Armidale Secondary College!

Therefore, it would be remiss of me not to recognise the gargantuan efforts of our students and staff over the past 12 months, and more recently the outstanding work that has been dedicated to ensuring we transition smoothly between two campuses. Staff have physically and mentally stretched themselves this past term in preparation for the opening of our new site in 2021. I am in awe of their commitment in supporting one another and our wonderful students during a very busy and challenging term. We also thank our parents and carers for their support and understanding during this time of transition.

We farewell a number of staff members who will either be taking up other opportunities or entering into retirement:

Jason Walker will be taking up a permanent position at Guyra Central School. Jason has been a very valued member of ASC staff over the past two years and we are thrilled that he has received a permanent appointment just up the road.

Peter and Susan Harris will be making the move to warmer weather as Pete takes up a position of Head Teacher PD/H/PE at Camden Haven High School. The contribution that Pete has made as a member of staff at ASC, and previously Duval High School has been incredible. This is matched by Susan, who has played such a significant role in the support unit at Armidale High School and subsequently ASC. We wish Pete and Susan all the very best for the future.

Thank you also to Katie Fisher, who has worked with the CAPA team for the past 12 months. All the best for your future endeavours.

Early next year we will farewell Roger Horton, who has been an integral member of the school executive (Deputy Principal) for many years. Roger has been pondering what retirement might hold for him and we look forward to inviting him back to ASC at regular intervals to share morning tea and stories of rest and relaxation with us.

At this time all signs indicate that the Covid restrictions may continue to ease as we approach the commencement of the new year. The most current advice from the Department of Education is that we can have up to 30 parents at any given time at the school if they are indoors, or up to 50 if we are planning an outdoor occasion. We would like to see this number continue to be revised upwards so that we can share our wonderful new build with as many families as possible. Stay tuned for further information.

ASC is committed to working with students and families to ensure compliance with the school uniform. We would ask for your help and support in ensuring that your son/daughter has the correct uniform items for the start of the new school year. The school uniform has many options and has been designed to be comfortable and appropriate for all school activities.

The opening of the new school is a great opportunity for all students to be demonstrating pride in the wearing of the uniform. The ASC uniform is the only approved uniform from Day 1 Term 1, and we would ask that the previous AHS and DHS uniform items are now retired.

We are very excited to be able to commence a new year of learning in 2021 at the new Butler Street Campus. Please keep an eye on our ASC Facebook page and ASC Website early in the new year for any reminders and updates.
