School Council

The greatest gift you can give is your time.

New School Council President

For our first School Council meeting of 2021, we needed to vote in a new School Council President, as Sam Cohen and his youngest children graduated on to high school. We are pleased to announce that Tanya Pittard is our new School Council President. Many of you will know Tanya from her engagement through Education Committee and of course our Winter Magic Market!

Tanya has a plethora of skills and experience that will be of benefit to our Council and our community, matched with a passion for public education that will make her an incredible advocate for your children's development and wellbeing. Thank you, Tanya, for taking on this important role!

School Council Meets

While we met outside we actually got to meet in person for our first School Council meeting for 2021. While we have all adjusted to the flexibility required in a screen focussed COVID world, it was such a relief to finally have a face-to-distanced face School Council meeting.

Acknowledging and Thanking Retiring School Councillors

When parents step forward to serve on the School Council they bring with them a passion for their child's education, a commitment towards serving the community and the perspective, knowledge and experience from years of juggling work and parenting. In choosing to volunteer on School Council they are making a valuable contribution of time, often a parent's most precious commodity, towards our school community. It also often requires support from their families to enable them to undertake the additional volunteer hours. A commitment and willingness to make a significant volunteer contribution to the school is frequently a value shared across their broader family. Meaning you will frequently see School Councillors kids, partners, parents and siblings also getting stuck into the various volunteer roles that keep public schools ticking. Getting to spend time with a diverse range of caring people is one of the joys of volunteering.

It is therefore with sadness that we have to thank and farewell retiring School Councillors Aaron Hemsley and Matt Price. During their years serving on School Council they have both been a significant part of the team responsible for the successful capital works grant. This will be a legacy their younger children will get to enjoy and will stand as a testament to what can be achieved when a dedicated group of parents get together to advocate for the needs of their primary school.

Matt has served as Secretary for School Council and for many years also sat on the Education Committee. While we will definitely miss his minute taking skills, Matt has also contributed expertise to the School Council during his time as part of the group. He has brought a calm professionalism and practical perspective to discussions that is to be admired. He is also one of those parents who just calmly contributes wherever he can, including staying till the end of multiple winter Magic Markets contributing to the exhausting and very unglamorous pack up work.

During his time on School Council Aaron served as Vice President, a particularly important role during the capital works fundraising campaign. He also provided expertise on governance and a  perspective on and understanding of Government processes. Aaron's passion for digging into the practicalities of a situation will be sorely missed as will his considered questions. Aaron is an unfailing supporter of the volunteer works done by so many parents and an advocate for transparency of process.

On behalf of School Council I'd like to sincerely thank both Aaron and Matt for their contribution to the school and warmly wish them and their families all the best in 2021.
