A Message from Keir

Hi Everyone!

As you may have seen or heard, my name is Keir Jasper and I am very delighted to be the new Assistant principal at Brunswick North West Primary School.

I have been working in government schools across Melbourne for over twenty years – as a classroom teacher, a Performing Arts teacher, a literacy and curriculum leader and most recently as an Assistant Principal. I have a strong passion for government school education and work hard to constantly ensure that decisions that the school, the community or I am making have the students as their centre.

At home, I am the doting father of two beautiful cats (one who is practically geriatric and the other who is young and spritely) and a mischievous fifteen-month-old Pug named Augustus Gloop – or ‘Gus’ for short. I have been a dance teacher and choreographer for over twenty years (a very long time!) and I have worked with a variety of community groups and schools to create performances that celebrate the amazing communities they represent. I do my best to practice yoga and read daily – two things that make me happy and keep me grounded.

I would like to thank all of the members of the school community who have already made me welcome during my first week at BNWPS. If we haven’t chatted yet; feel free to say hello. I would love to meet as many people as possible, but I can’t guarantee I will remember everyone’s names just yet!

2021 Foundies

During my first week at BNWPS I have had the pleasure of spending quite a bit of time in the Foundation class rooms. Our new Foundies have settled in to school just like they have been there for years! It was the first time in a very long time that I have seen a group of Foundies who had absolutely no tears at school on their first day! The Foundation teachers are guiding all of the students to Play in the classroom every day and are observing and noting their interactions with each other, with themselves and with their environments.  As Plato the Greek philosopher said; “You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than a year of conversation.”

Have a great week everyone – make sure you say ‘Hi’ if you see me in the yard!
