'The Mud Pony" - 2T

Joshua – Summary

Once there was a boy named Running Deer. He was pony-less and his family was very poor.

One day running deer went down to the riverbank with mud in his hands and he made a pony out of the mud.  He played with it everyday. But the day came when there was no more food to hunt and Running Deer’s family had to leave without him.

A few minutes later Running Deer came to the camp but there was no one there. He cried until he fell asleep. His mud pony talked to him in his dream. When he woke up he saw his mud pony had come alive.

He jumped onto his mud pony’s back and rode until they found Running Deer’s people.  The chief wanted to trade his best 4 horses for the mud pony. Running Deer didn’t really want to trade but he had to do what the chief asked.

While with the chief, the mud pony broke his leg.  Running Deer cared about his mud pony so much that he galloped again.

A few years later when the chief was dying he called for Running Deer to tell him that after he dies he wanted Running Deer to be the chief.

After the chief died, Running Deer forgot to put a blanket on the mud pony at night time. He woke to the sound of rain and sprinted to his mud pony.  But the mud pony was gone and was just a pile of mud.

Mud Pony had gone to Mother Earth.
