Library Monitors play a leadership role in our school. They volunteer to give up one / two of their breaks per week to assist the librarian by doing various jobs in the library (e.g. reshelving books, library decorations, working on new library displays, sorting and tidying games, assistance in computer labs) to ensure its smooth running.
The 2020 library monitors attended their first training session in the library and they learnt all the essential skills required to perform their duties.
Year 7 Library Orientation Tour
Year 7 classes (7T / 7L / 7W) of 2020 visited the library at the beginning of the term to learn about all the services it offers them.
They participated in a library scavenger hunt activity and enjoyed it very much. There was also raffle tickets draws with lucky winners.
All year 7 students were given a summary booklet about the library and borrowed their first books.
Welcome again year 7 to EHS! Have a wonderful year!
NSW 2020 Premier’s Reading Challenge
The Challenge starts on Monday 2nd March 2020 and closes on Friday 28th August for student entries. It is open to students in years 7-9.
The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely.
Students must read a total of 20 books: Minimum 15 books from the PRC booklist and maximum 5 books of personal choice. Books that are on the PRC booklists have been labelled with stickers to help students identify them.
Students are encouraged to check out the Author and Illustrator Showcases on the Arts Unit website to catch up with the some of the best children's and YA authors in Australia from overseas too!
Please follow this Link: https://www.artsunit.nsw.edu.au/reading-challenge
For more information, please visit the PRC website (Access through Student Portal) OR see Ms Chalhoub in the library for assistance to sign up.
Happy reading always!!
Library Lovers’ Day (14.2.20)
Library Lovers’ Day was celebrated again this year again on Friday 14th February.
The theme for Library Lovers' Day 2020 is ‘Uncover something new’. This special day is an opportunity for library and information professionals to show off their libraries and for people across Australia to show their love for libraries.
A big number of students joined in the “Tell us why your love your library “competition. Names will be drawn out in week 5 and winners will receive fantastic prizes.
I would like to share few students’ responses:
“I love the library because I can read and borrow books which I need for studies. I can also play Uno cards with my friends.” (Felida – year 9)
“I enjoy the quiet environment. I feel very welcomed and the books are amazing.” (Mia- year 7)
“I love my library because it is a peaceful place and you are able to sit and play quiet games with your friends.” (Hailey – Year 7)
“I love my library because it is a quiet place. It has AC and the best Manga books.” (Elinah – year 7)
“I love my library because I really enjoy reading different kinds of books to improve my reading and English skills.” (Blessing – Year 8)
Happy Library Lovers' Day everyone!!
