Year 3 Great Readers

Year 3 students have all been trying hard to read each day.

These fantastic readers have achieved their 25 nights awards.

Goal Setting and Feedback

There has been a lot of research around intrinsic motivation ( self motivation) in children. A great motivator to take control of your own learning is goal setting. At St Xavier’s, Year 1 are taking the bull by the horns and teaching the children how to recognise areas they need to improve on and set goals to achieve. Year 1 has made this term’s focus around improving writing. In an effort to make the goal setting process easier in the infants classes, we are using a key to represent aspects of writing (as they are still learning to write).

The children use a sentence written earlier and then in consultation with the teacher, choose something to work on in the writing.

With the goal in mind the teacher can then provide descriptive/meaningful feedback to the student about their writing and where to go next.
