Science Club During Remote Learning

A Special Report

We  have been able to find an idle hovercopter to send in to the lair of the Science Club parent volunteers and bring back this special report.  You may read the rest of this report in a David Attenborough voice.

The lair was found to be empty. Everyone was staying home.  It seems that they, too, felt the herd’s instinct for keeping each other safe.  We sent the hovercopter out into the natural habitats of these  fascinating creatures.

All of the parent helpers that we  were able to observe were practising physical distancing, so that’s a relief.  Some were peering into the night sky to track the passing International Space Station.  Some were using bicarbonate of soda and yeast to produce food, instead of cool experiments. Others seemed to be fascinated with reading articles about other scientists who are doing amazing work to help all of the people around the world to live safer lives.  Occasionally, one or two were seen to curl up into a ball and rock silently in the corner, but that didn’t last long.  One of the group could be seen polishing used, plastic drink bottles - as if to prepare for a Science Club session.

All the while, among the many pastimes we filmed,  these Science Club helpers always looked after their young.

There was one particular thing that this group took special care of.  For many weeks this group have been looking after a precious pile of papers. When our hovercopter was able to draw in for a closer look we saw that it was the enrolment forms for Science Club this year.

Like all others in their community, the volunteers cannot predict what the future holds for Rangeview Science Club this year. But they have not forgotten those forms.  It seems as if they are ready to deliver Science Club for all the students who returned their forms  . . . if and when it is safe to do so.

As the battery on our hovercopter died we watched as one prepared their young for a walk outside - only to be faced with a missing shoe. A common problem in the herd.
