Junior School Athletics Carnival
Please be aware, the date of the Junior School Athletics Carnival has changed to Wednesday 27th March, 2019. This event will held at the Flora Hill Athletics complex. The format of events at the carnival is to maximise student participation and enjoyment.
Years Three to Six students depart at 8:55am. It is imperative Year Three to Six students are at school by 8.45am on this day. The Year Three to Six events involve students participating in a rotation of events throughout the day. These events are: 100m, 200m, 400m, Long Jump, High Jump, Triple Jump, Discus, Shot Put. Students rotate around activities in their age groups competing to achieve various standards. As in other years, students have the opportunity to receive ribbons for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each event and these results will contribute to the age champions at the end of the carnival. All points are added for the total House score.
The Year One and Year Two events will commence at 1:00pm and Preparatory events will commence at 1:30pm. These events will include track running and modified field events. They will not operate under an achievement system but will still be rewarded ribbons for particular events. These results will contribute to the House score. Year One and Two students will arrive at the track at 12:30pm and Preparatory students will arrive at 1:00pm.
All students will require a cut lunch as well as drinks and snacks. Students are encouraged to bring their lunch and snacks in a small drawstring or supermarket bag to take with them during the rotations. The Canteen at the complex may not be open on the day so please ensure students have plenty of snacks and drinks. Students should also pre-medicate if they are asthmatic and remember to bring along their sunscreen and a hat.
The Athletics Carnival will conclude at approximately 3:40pm and parents will be required to collect their children from the Flora Hill Athletics Track.
Bus travelers will need to make alternative arrangements. Any students not collected by 3:40pm, will be returned to school for collection.

Arrive at Track: 9.10am
Field Events: 9.40am-1.00pm
Track Events: 1.10pm-3.00pm
Years 1-2
Arrive at Track: 12.30pm
Field Events: 1.20pm-2.45pm
Track Events: 1.00pm-1.20pm
Preparatory
Arrive at Track: 1.00pm
Field Events: 1.20pm (start)
Track Events: 2.45pm (finish)
All Students:
Spirit Cup: 3.10pm
Presentations: 3.20pm
Students cannot be dismissed from the track until all presentations are complete. Please notify your child’s class teacher at the Carnival before taking your child home.

Arrival Time
Students to arrive at the track between 8.15am - 8.30am
Departure Time
Presentations will conclude at 5.15pm. Parents will need to collect students from the track.
Please note:
1) Buses will depart from Girton Gymnasium at 8.15am and 8.45am for students who normally ride, walk, catch a train or country bus to Girton.
2) Buses will be available to take students back to Girton or to the train station at the end of the day.
i) Bus to the station will depart at 5.05pm (in order to catch the 5.25pm train)
ii) Bus to Girton will depart at the completion of the presentations, at approximately 5.20pm
Any students who wish to travel on these courtesy buses are required to sign their name on the list provided at either the Morey or Gymnasium Receptions.
The athletics track is an animal free zone and we have been asked by management to remind parents not to bring any dogs to this venue.

Students are permitted to wear their correct House sports uniform to and from the athletics.
The canteen is available, although it is recommended that students pack their lunch and drink bottle, plus hat and sunscreen.
Students are reminded that the 1500m event will be held at school on Wednesday 27th March during lunchtime on Londonderry oval. Please register your name for the event with Ms Speed or Mrs Tunzi in the Gymnasium office.
