LANGUAGES

WHY CHOOSE A LANGUAGE FOR THE FUTURE?

Dear parents,

On behalf of all language teachers at McKinnon I would like to thank you in advance for the support of your child/children learning a language from home. We are aiming to keep the program achievable for all students and would encourage you to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.

With subject selections made at this time of the year I would like to bring your attention to relevant information that should be considered for choosing a language for further study.

The Department of Education outlines the benefits as following:

Languages learning is developmental – new learning is built on students' existing knowledge and understanding.

Quality languages learning aims to:

  • develop and extend student capacity to communicate in the target language, across all four dimensions of reading, writing, speaking and listening;
  • develop and extend intercultural understanding;
  • develop understanding of and respect for diversity and an openness to different perspectives;
  • nurture reflective, creative and critical thinking;
  • enhance intellectual and analytical capabilities.

Please visit the information about Languages learning provided by the Department of Education about the immeasurable benefits for the future.
