In our Food Technology department, we were eagerly looking forward to starting this semester in the school kitchens, however it was not meant to be.

Last term, we showcased some of the food that our wonderful Year 7 students cooked during lockdown. We had very successful learning outcomes and many happy family members when food was provided by their children on a regular basis.

We have invited our Year 7-10 students to cook at home, if possible. We are aware that it may be inconvenient however as we are providing live or video demonstrations, the recipe and method. We believe our students should be able to competently complete the practical component of the course.

This is not compulsory. However we believe a definite benefit is the ‘break’ it offers from the computer screen and the immediate success, satisfaction (and food) that it provides. This then has the side effect of being timeout and a mental health break for many of our students.

We aim to include some photos of their efforts in upcoming newsletters and hope that you enjoy sharing the experiences of our budding young chefs.

Our Health team wish you well in lockdown and hope to see our students’ smiling faces in our classroom soon.
