From the Principal

Laughing, screaming, chatter and cheering.  Now, that is what I have missed over the past eight weeks of remote learning.  It was great to welcome back all our students on Tuesday.  The excitement and energy they bring to our College is a great reminder of what we, as educators, signed up for.  We certainly acknowledge that returning to school came with some trepidation for students and families, however, on the whole, it was a relief that things are starting to return to some form of normality.

Over the past few months, we have been reminded about the ‘new normal’ in which we now live our lives.  Yesterday I was asked by a student about how long things will be different for.  After declaring "I am not really sure", I asked what he thought.  Without hesitation, he responded with “while it’s been a little weird at times with this whole Coronavirus thing, people actually seem to be a little nicer to each other”.  Such an interesting take for a teenage boy.  While we do not know about what our ‘new normal’ will be, maybe through all of this, being nicer to each other is just one of the many silver linings for us to aspire to.

As you know, many events across the College have been cancelled.  Currently we are in the process of determining what events for Semester 2 will be cancelled as opposed to postponed.  The State Government will continue to guide us as to what is and is not manageable.  Our priority at this stage is to ensure we are doing everything within our powers to keep all members of our community safe.  We will continue to update our community as to events that may or may not have changed since Covid-19.

Today, our students are not required to attend school as staff are engaging in a professional learning day.  The day will focus on Spirituality and will support staff in gaining accreditation hours for their professional learning requirements and also support many staff in their accreditation status in teaching in a Catholic School.  I thank all families for their support in making alternative arrangements for their children today.

Lastly, it remains critically important that as a community we continue to follow regular hygiene requirements and adequate physical distancing as a part of our daily lives.  I have been so impressed with the response from families, students and staff since the return to school.  Our College continues to follow an intensive cleaning schedule to support everyone within the College.  A collective approach will allow us the best opportunity to remain safe.  Keep up the great work everyone.
