Student Well-being Anecdotes from the Diary

Positive transition from online to integrated face to face learning

This week as we welcomed back students from Year 5 to Year 12 on respective days it has been positive to reflect on what we have learned during this period of online learning. The quality of interaction, learning and engagement from students overall has been most encouraging, although we know there have been challenges and limitations to be overcome for all of us. Most students and staff are excited, and some a little nervous to be back to school in some capacity and it is important that we support each other at this time.

Year 11 Advocacy for our Year 12

On the initiative of our Year 11 students a card of welcome and support, and small gift, has been extended by our Year 11 cohort, under Mr Ticli’s and Ms Cheney’s guidance, to our Year 12 who continue their preparations for the HSC and have our full support. The card integrates the following prayer and message:

Working and Learning online

Over the coming in weeks online lessons will continue and some of the valuable lessons we have learned will improve the ways we do things into the future.

While learning online Mr di Sano’s classes developed a poster to support their learning and guide their approach to lessons. It is a great example of directed focus in any learning environment and I commend it to you below.

Well done to the students and Mr di Sano for designing this to support our well being and learning focus.

Attendance Codes

A reminder as we transition from online to face to face teaching staff are working hard to reconcile student attendance reporting:

Students are marked P present if they are physically at school doing lessons;

F for Flexible Learning if they are learning online. This appears orange on the Portal but is counted as present in a learning environment; and

A for absent if they are sick, away or have not reported to their Pastoral Care teacher at roll call to make their presence known.

Students and parents can assist us by contacting studentmanagement@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au to inform of absences, correct any anomalies or indicate when students are working from home rather than school.

Pastoral Care

Remember there is a network of support for students and indeed all members of our community. Students and families are encouraged to reach out for themselves and equally advocate for others if they are feeling overwhelmed or concerned about matters. Our Pastoral Care teams of staff and counsellors are a ready first port of call and ideally every student should have a network of 5 adults they would turn to if they felt they were in trouble. We hope this is a reality for each of our students.
