Prep News

We have been learning a new reading strategy in Prep this week: 'Stop! Back up and reread'. When students get stuck or make a mistake, they can use this strategy to help them understand and remember what they have read, while also helping them to improve their fluency by reading sentences a second time.

The students have loved being back at school practising this new strategy with their friends, and using the fun pointers they made in class to help!

Level 1/2 News

It’s been an exciting few weeks being back at school for our enthusiastic Level 1/2 students. Sharing about the time spent at home prompted some interesting conversations as we reflected on what we missed during isolation; each other, what we can’t wait to do again; go to the movies or swimming pools, and what we are grateful for; iPads and Zoom!

The Level 1/2 teachers are incredibly proud of how quickly the students have settled back into school life and adapted to some new routines.

Back in the classroom our students have loved learning together again and using their collaborative thinking skills to explore new concepts and revisit familiar topics. Level 1/2 students have enjoyed hands on learning as students continue to develop their understanding of money and practice telling time. Students are also building their stamina for reading up again and are enjoying reading and writing procedural texts.

Check out the many smiling faces in the photo slide!

Level 3/4

The Level 3/4 students have adapted beautifully to their return to school. They have impressed us with their resilience, flexibility and enthusiasm for learning. It is lovely to see their smiling faces back in the classroom. We would like to thank our amazing parents for making the transition back to school such a smooth one.

Very soon Mrs Munnecke will be leaving us for a short while to have her baby. We wish her all the very best and can't wait to meet the new arrival! In her absence we would like to welcome Ms Clare McCandlish, who will be joining the Level 3/4 teaching team. The students in 3/4M were very excited to meet their new teacher this week and gave her a very warm Rolling Hills welcome.

We are gently easing back into learning routines and have spent some time writing letters about Covid -19 to 'Our Future Selves.' In Maths, we are looking closely at multiplication skills and strategies. Please support your child to play games and access websites and educational apps to learn multiplication and division facts at home. We have had a special focus on re establishing friendships and socialising, whilst completing craft activities. Please browse through the gallery below to see some of our amazing results!

Until next time, all the very best!

Level 5/6

What a wonderful transition back to school life our Grade 5/6 students have had! It is great to have their smiling faces back around the school. We are extremely proud of the resilience they have been modelling as leaders of our school. We would like to take the time to thank our wonderful Level 5/6 families for all of their support during remote learning. A common positive that arose from self-isolation for the Level 5/6 students was gaining the opportunity to advance their digital technology skills and trying new and different things from the comfort of their homes. A common downfall to remote learning was not being able to see their friends, teachers and enjoy face-to-face learning. We are all very glad to be moving back to a 'new normal' and are keeping vigilant with our hand washing practices and being mindful of personal space.

In Reading, Level 5/6 students have been analysing texts in many different forms including fiction, non-fiction, magazine, digital, visual and audio. They can continue to explore a range of texts using Epic! at home.

In Writing, Level 5/6 students have been continuing to develop procedural texts which follow the structure of a recipe or 'how to' instructions. Students may like to get creative and make some of their recipes at home or share a 'how to' activity with their siblings or friends.

In Maths, Level 5/6 students have been focusing on Geometric Reasoning, considering angles. Keep an eye out for any interesting angles in your home!

Keep up the fabulous work and all the best as we come to the end of another fabulous term!
