Principal Report

Dear Families,

I hope the last newsletter for this term continues to find everyone positive and well as we approach the school holidays.

All of our students are back at school now and have quickly found their place. In the beginning, the teacher focussed on supporting the student's emotional well-being as they returned from a large window away from the school. We realised that they have a huge amount of resilience (at least in school hours) as they made the return look easy.

This last week we have started to get back on track with our teaching and learning programs. We have gathered the data from our assessments and have found that some students have made gains, most students have stayed at the same progression point and a few have fallen a little behind, not much when we look deeper. This closely matched student's ability to complete the work tasks that were shared during remote learning on Compass.

We plan to share a more concise report this semester and for us to focus and pinpoint where students need our support to catch up in semester 2. Reports will be shared in the last week. They will have progression points, learning tasks for literacy and numeracy, a portfolio, and an overview from the specialists.

I am looking forward to hearing that everyone has had a well-earned break on our semester 2 return and that we are all energised for learning.

Camps

Yesterday we have received an update that camps will be happening for schools from June 21st. We will run camps for grades 5/6, 3/4, and day camp for 1/2. The preps will enjoy a fun morning event at school.

I know that not every family is coming out of the COVID-19 spell in the same financial position they started. If you think you may find supporting a camp difficult this year please come and see me in person to explore options.

You can also use CSEF funding for camps as well as any credits you may have on your account at school. Send the office an email if you wish to use a credit.

Staffing

We do have a few movements in terms of staffing in semester 2. In grade 3/4 Mrs Munnecke will be leaving to start her maternity a few weeks into term 3. Replacing her will be Ms. McClandlish. I wish them both well on their new adventure.

We also welcome Miss Wright to our ESO team in the Prep grade and we also bid farewell to Mr Henry who leaves us this term.

Another staff member leaving is Ms Phillips who will be heading to Orchard PS as a grade 5 teacher. A change from Auslan. I would like to thank her for the exciting program she has brought to RHPS. Mrs Granger and Miss Minton will add a day each to their week and take on those extra classes. I would like to wish Ms Phillips and Mr Henry all the best with their next steps.

Books

I asked for donations of old books. This is what we plan to do in the library. I can't promise they will be returned so they would be a gift.

Love Hearts

If you have the love heart we sent your child over remote learning at home please can you send it back to school decorated. We would like to display them in school. Hand them in to your classroom teacher who will drop them at the office.

Nourish Network

The P&F recently donated the proceeds of the last terms Mother's Day stall to the Nourish Network. A local charity that has been working hard to support families in the Mooroolbark area. If you feel like you want to find out more please see the links here https://ripplekindness.org/contact-us/

I think the gesture from P&F is a wonderful example to our children and a good dinner table conversation that supports gratitude.

Thank You

A special thanks to Mark and Cassie who helped us design our new lesson structure that will be displayed and shared in all of our teaching spaces. The company specialises in events and photo booths. Support local businesses by checking out their website www.socialexposure.com.au (Shameless plug)
