Principal's Update

Earlier this week, we remembered in faith all who have served, and continue serving in our armed forces, especially those who have died and those wounded in battle.  Together we prayed for healing and peace, that one day, all peoples will lay down their arms and embrace one another as brothers and sisters in one human family. In addition, our Year 7 students attended the Remembrance Day Service at the Mentone RSL at which our junior choir under the guidance of Ms Jo-Anne Hilliard sang the National Anthem.

As the Unit 3/4 VCAA examinations begin to draw to a close, students in Years 9, 10 and 11 are preparing for the commencement of their end of semester examinations. These examinations will enable students to demonstrate their learning over the course of the semester, refine their revision techniques and practice their examination writing skills.  Our 2020 VCAL students are preparing for our inaugural VCAL camp, which will be held one of the Kildare Ministries community works; the Presentation Family Centre in Balnarring.  The main focus of this experience is for the group to prepare for the year ahead.

Twenty-seven Year 11 students along with Mrs Elaine Bracciale, Mr Stephen Brown, Mrs Maree Clarke and Ms Jaime Wallace depart next weekend for their expedition in South East Asia (Vietnam and Cambodia).  Staff and students have been preparing for this expedition since 2018, with numerous fundraising events, formation sessions and training for the three day hike that they will complete in Cambodia.  We wish our travellers a safe and rewarding experience.

Within the Christian tradition, November is a time in which we come together to remember and pray for our relatives and friends and all who have died. College Chaplain, Father Peter Matheson celebrated Mass with us at the College, before the commencement of the school day, on Friday 1 November. It was lovely to see many staff and students join together to remember loved ones who have passed.

Reflection

God of Consolation,

We remember those who have died,

For those who passed away quietly, we ask for a joyful passage into your spacious heart.

For those who suffered great pain, we ask for respite and comfort of your compassionate embrace.

For those who died too soon, in sudden and unexpected ways, we ask for peace and surrender into your loving care.

Grant all of those who have died the grace of your eternal light and life.

Amen
