Year 7

Melbourne Zoo Excursion

On Friday 1 November, the Year 7 students visited the Royal Melbourne Zoo. Students are learning about how scientists classify the diverse range of life on Earth. Students planned their own journey around the Zoo. They attended a keeper talk about animals of their own choice, and completed their zoo booklets as they progressed throughout the day.

The Year 7 students coped with the very warm conditions without complaint. They were responsible and looked after each other in their small groups. Here are some of the highlights:

“I enjoyed seeing all of the animals at the Zoo for my first time. I found the giant tortoises the cutest, and that they were very friendly, rather than running away (although they can’t exactly run).”

Roisin Mullholland

“I enjoyed getting to look at the animals our group chose and we were able to go around in our own groups.”

Sasha Horan

“The Zoo was a great day and I liked seeing many different animals.”

Evie Barnes

“We had a lot more freedom, unlike at primary school where you had to follow a teacher wherever you go.”

Gabbi McArthur

“The ice cream!”

Emmasen Bryant

“I learned that the giant tortoise is over 100 years old and can survive very long without food and water.“

Zarah Tenaglia

“Some things that I enjoyed about the day include: the dance floor with the big frog on the top of the building, the giant tortoise, the baboons were adorable, and sitting down after walking for a billion years was the best part.”

Minnie Bourinaris

“I learned that orangutans are 97% human.”

Ruby Larkins

“I liked the zoo because it was a lot of fun.”

Jacinta Boyd

“What I enjoyed was the seals and mostly the sea animals as I’m very passionate about the environment and the ocean.”
