Hello,

My name is Shannen and I am a year 9 student. I am passionate about netball, netball coaching and helping with school initiatives.  This year I have been involved in the middle school leadership team, I have been a community action team leader and a class captain in semester one. I have helped with a few initiatives such as breakfasts every second Wednesday, end of year Christmas carols, school tours and even helped with fun activities and days such as Brigidine Day. I love doing this as I am able to help the school community in different ways.

Earlier this year I found out about student exchange opportunities. Since then I have been working hard towards ways I could possibly go on an exchange. I would love to go to the USA as I feel that there is so much culture and school spirit that I could learn a lot about and then possibly bring back with me. I also feel that an exchange is an incredible, once in a lifetime opportunity for personal growth and to learn about the world we live in.

At the start of September, I submitted a 1000 word creative story application for a scholarship. Whilst my application was highly commended by the judges, I unfortunately missed out on the scholarship. However, because of how hard I had been working I was offered another option. This option is called the Give Back Exchange Fund and would cover the same costs of the program as a scholarship. To be considered for this, I submit an application along with the school. However, an overseas student would need to come to Kilbreda in my place for 12 months. Part of the conditions of this are that an exchange student attends Kilbreda and is hosted by families with a daughter at the school.  As this would be at the same time as my exchange, unfortunately my family are unable to host.

I am hoping to find a family that would be willing to host an overseas student for the 12-month period. Alternatively, two families could share the experience, and host the one student for 6 months each. This would be for the 2020 school year, and the student would arrive during January.

Information regarding hosting a student can be found at: https://www.thisisscce.com/hosting

If you are interested in hosting a foreign exchange student and are in a position to do so next year, or have any further questions, please contact Miss Denise Dunne denise.dunne@kilbreda.vic.edu.au by Wednesday 20 November.

Thank you.
