School Council Update

Hello Mackellar community,

Welcome back to another term of school council supporting our teachers and students to improve our school for the benefit of everyone.  We have lots of exciting updates for you in this week's newsletter which I am sure you will agree are just fantastic!

Last term, you were invited to complete a survey on how we were going as a school, and as a result we wrote ourselves a report card on our progress based on the responses of students, parents and staff.  One of the statements in that report card indicated a need to improve the image of the school both aesthetically and as a centre of learning.  As a council, we leave the teaching and learning to the teachers, however improving the look of the school is very much a council affair.

As such, at our last meeting we agreed to rejuvenate the front entrance of the school and also committed to continuing the landscaping along the Yates Street frontage, as that area had become tired, and in places unsafe.

If you have been past that area now, you will see that it looks very different and is a vast improvement on what was there just three weeks ago.  In addition, the front of the school now has a fresh and clean appeal with additional plants, trees, bark and cleaned and tendered pathways.

At our last meeting we also agreed to seek quotes to replace the playground outside The Hive.  Our student leaders had been meeting with playground suppliers to let them know from a student perspective what they wanted in the design.  Having received the designs, the whole student body are just about to start voting on which design they prefer. To keep you informed I have uploaded the designs for you to look at.

Once the students have had their say, the process will again revert to school council to weigh up the pros, cons and selections of the students before approving any decision.

A very exciting process indeed, and our thanks go to Mr Michielin and the student leaders for leading this exciting update.

Regards,
