This week, St Philomena's have been celebrating NAIDOC Week. Students from Years K-10 have been immersing themselves in Aboriginal cultural lessons led by Shirley, Steven, Jett and their Leaders of Learning. These activities have been based around this year's theme, Heal Country, and for some students has also included weaving lessons.

On Tuesday, we held a whole-school liturgy and colour day. The Murri-Yulugaay dance group has been working hard over the last few weeks, practising and fine tuning their dance, for what was a spectacular performance! Despite a technical issue where the music ceased, the students continued to dance.

Each year, three NAIDOC awards are presented to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students who show positive effort and commitment to the school community and to their school work, as well as a high attendance rate. We are proud to announce that our 2021 NAIDOC award winners are Cooper Simpson (Years K-2), Jaydah Duncan (Years 3-6) and Clare Cory (Years 7-10). Congratulations to Cooper, Jaydah and Clare.

St Philomena's is looking forward to celebrating NAIDOC in 2022 with the Moree community, when there will hopefully be fewer COVID restrictions.
