Deputy Principal, Primary Department

Stage 2 and Stage 3 Camps

We are all anxious to know if these excursions will be going ahead, especially when people are paying instalments owing. Our advice at this stage is that you should hold off making any more payments until the 30th of July. Once we get to this date, we will be updated on what the rest of this term may possibly look like. We will then inform parents of the decision.

Parent/Teacher Interviews

Thank you so much for your support in attending Zoom meetings as opposed to face to face interviews. This was our first time running the Parent/Teacher Interviews this way and we only had three cases of the interview not going to plan. If you missed out on an interview, please know that we are always happy to facilitate conversations with you regarding your child and their education. Simply phone the main office and we will organise a time for a phone call.

Student Behaviour

We are blessed here at Molong Central School to have children, who for the most part, are respectful and attentive learners, who have minimal behavioural issues. That is not to say we do not have conflict and incidents that arise and need to be dealt with. Our approach at Molong Central School K-6 is to pro-actively teach a Social Emotional Learning program. This is based on the overwhelming evidence that explicitly teaching students how to interact, how to respond and how to manage their emotional responses minimises the number of social issues. Bounce Back is being taught every week across our K-6 site. Furthermore, in Personal Development and Health, our students are immersed in interpersonal relationship learning. Positive behaviour is affirmed with merit awards, Student of the Week and recognition at Assemblies.

When we witness, or are alerted to conflict or concerning behaviour, staff have a process for managing these situations. You will often receive a phone call alerting you to issues, in an effort that we as a school, and you as the parents, can work together to get our children back on track.

Often the courts are an area we see issues arise, with children becoming fiercely competitive. Without the intensive eye of umpires/referees and parents, things can escalate quickly. I have spoken to all children regarding this and repeat offenders will serve a ban on using the courts (usually a day or two). A roster system is in place to keep age groups separate and to control the number of children on the courts. We have also increased supervision in this area.

Over the time I have been in the role of Deputy Principal I have had a number of parents contact me relating to concerns about student conduct. I greatly appreciate that these parents came to me so we could find solutions together. I am a mum myself and understand that this can sometimes be daunting, as no one wants their child targeted as the victim. As an experienced educator and leader, please trust that I always endeavour to move forward with sensitivity whilst holding our students to a high level of expectation with regards to their conduct. In saying this, if the school is not given the details, we cannot act. So please, make sure you communicate concerns to your child’s classroom teacher as a first port of call or if you feel concerned with this avenue, please call the main office to speak to me or contact me via my email audrey.masters1@det.nsw.edu.au.

News from 4 Lime

It has been a busy start to Term 3 for the students in 4 Lime! We have kicked off our Visual Arts unit by looking at examples of Indigenous artworks and discussing the techniques that have been used. We have created our own artworks using a variety of designs and discussed which we thought looked most effective.

As part of our Spelling unit this week we have been exploring different prefixes and how the meaning of a word changes, when prefixes are added.

We are really enjoying becoming familiar with our Stage Two Google Classroom and developing skills that can be used on this learning platform. It is always exciting to learn new skills!

As part of our Health unit and the Bounce Back program we are learning to recognise and name different emotions. We are building our skills in supporting others and identifying when others may be feeling down or need our help. We have looked at the way in which we are all similar and different and have come to the conclusion that we are all pretty fabulous just the way we are!
