Non-Binary Awareness Week

Promoting the use of inclusive language in school

Non-Binary Awareness Week ran from Monday July 13 until Sunday July 18, with the annual International Non-Binary People’s Day occurring on Wednesday July 14. The day was first celebrated in 2012, and the date was chosen as it is the precise middle date between the International Men’s and Women’s Days.

NHS is promoting the use of more inclusive language and conduct both in and out of the classroom, with our Feminist Collective (FemCo) recently presenting to staff about the use of preferred pronouns and names for our Community members.

We are also encouraging friends and allies to support us in this process, by alerting us to any incorrect use of names and pronouns, where it is comfortable for the people involved to do so.

A friendly reminder to any and ALL members of the NHS Community that our Rainbow Club, welcoming all gender- and sexually-diverse people, and their allies, occurs every Friday lunchtime in M9. We’d love to see you there!
