12C - Around the Traps

Josh Carr

Literacy

This week we have been working on a book study of ‘Norton and The Bear ‘in preparation for our Book Week Parade on Friday.  We have been comparing and contrasting characters and looking at the interesting language the author has used.  In Writing, we are learning how to write different types of poems.  We have learnt that poetry is anything that expresses ideas or feelings with style.  We have completed Acrostic poems, a class I Wonder poem, Colour poems, Diamanté poems, and this week Dylan Thomas Portraits.

Maths

Maths focus this week is working with big numbers, all the way up to 999! We have been practising making these numbers, saying these numbers, going higher and lower and generally just getting comfortable being the masters of numbers up to the thousands. Next week I reckon we might go above 1000 – practically ready for university.

Inquiry

Our Inquiry Unit this term is about Stimulating Science. Students will consider changes that we experience in our lives through the lens of four different branches of science including; biology, earth and space science, chemistry, and physics. They will make predictions and scientific observations as they conduct experiments. Each student will show what they have learnt by identifying 'science' in their house and recording their understanding of each branch of science.

RE (Religious Education)

Our RE Unit is focusing on prayer and how we can talk to God in many different ways. Students are being helped to understand that prayer is an expression of God’s relationship with each of us and that we can pray for different reasons such as prayers of praise, thanks, forgiveness and petition.
