Principal's Message

Mr Forrest

Term 4 - Where is the warm weather?

It's hard to believe we had flooding in the local area last week and no real warm weather to speak of so far this term.  Apart from the weather, it's great to have a lot of on-site classes happening. As you will be aware we are approaching a very hectic last 5 weeks of term so will try and hold as many extra experiences that we can for all of our students.  Keep an eye on compass as the events are coming in thick and fast.

School Camps

This morning we sent off 60 excited students and staff members on camp for three days.   Both groups will be sharing the same venue, however participating completely  different activities during their DOXA Malmsbury experience. We hope they have an awesome time and stay dry.

Prep to Year 2 Special Event - Next Week

On Thursday 18th November all Year Prep - Year 2 students will be invited to a special event after school including a  BBQ Tea and Disco.  The following day Friday 19th November,  Year 2 students will be invited on a local excursion.    All details have been sent home today.

Year 11 Deb Ball in only 2 Weeks

The Deb Ball has been 'off again and on again', so it is pleasing to announce that it will take place on Friday 26th of November.

Please understand we will be operating under strict COVID and Health Guidelines, therefore entry to the Deb Ball will be managed accordingly i.e. QR coding, proof of full vaccinations.

As the Government is changing the COVID requirements on November 24th there is a strong possibility that anyone:

'aged 12 and above will have to prove that they are fully vaccinated to attend the Deb Ball.'

Currently as per DET rules announced from November 1st: School events, gatherings, and Assembly's can resume, however they must align with community settings.

  • Indoor events will remain subject to the obligations such as caps and density quotients. All eligible adults 16 and up must be fully vaccinated.
  • Outdoor events can be held with up to 500 people, with a density quotient of one person per two square metres applied.

We have to adhere to the Community Health Rules and we have no way of changing or bending them.  If you cannot comply with these rules you can have your ticket fully refunded.  You will be asked on the night to provide proof of vaccinations.

School Fees & Book Lists

Next week all families will receive very detailed information on School Fees, Resources and Booklists for 2022. There are a few major changes occurring for Wedderburn College students in 2022. Some of the following changes will be:

  • Students from Prep – Year 6 will have stationary purchased for them by the classroom teacher.  These resources  will be kept at school and distributed by the homeroom teacher.
  • Students from Year 7 - Year 10 will be provided with a basic individual stationary pack and distributed at the start of the year.
  • Students in Year 11 and Year 12 have the option to request a basic stationary pack or purchase their own supplies.
  • Senior textbooks can be borrowed from class sets or students can choose to purchase secondhand or new books if they want to highlight or write notes in their own personalised copy.
  • The provided resources will be paid for as part of school fees, parents will not have to deal directly with Wattle Office Supplies.
  • The voluntary fees and charges will be clearly explained in our Information Flyer.
  • Students and families will be required to pay for all optional camps, excursions and the school magazine separately.

Before & After School Care Grant Success

We are pleased to announce that for the next three school years Wedderburn College will be able to offer Before and After School Care for our students.  We are negotiating for Kinder children to be part of this exciting initiative.  We were officially informed on Monday as being one of the successful schools across the state to receive a $225,000 Grant to help establish this service.  We will distribute all enrolment details and costs when we have been briefed.  As part of the Grant our  facility and resources will also be upgraded.

Shade Grant Success

We have also been successful in obtaining a Shade Grant to erect a new outdoor eating area outside our proposed new College Cafe area in the old junior art space.   We hope to have both of these new facilities up and running at some stage in Term 1, 2022.

College Cafe

Work on the new College Cafe has begun.  A lot of demolition has been finished including the removal of walls, old equipment benches and sinks that has been in the space for the past 40 plus years.   The space will be used for our new canteen and a classroom reward area as well as a Training Centre for hospitality in 2022.   The next phase is to frame out old doorways, and the front counter before we invite plumbers and electricians in.  We will share progress photos as we move forward.
