Respectful Relationships

During this year, our students have continued to learn and build upon their social and emotional skills through our Respectful Relationships sessions. Over the next few weeks the students will be exploring the topic around Stress Management. Children and young people experience a range of personal, social and work-related stressors in their everyday lives. Activities within this topic have an explicit focus on teaching positive approaches to stress management. Assisting students to recognise their personal signs and symptoms of stress, and to develop strategies that will help them to deal with stress effectively and to help them cope with future challenges. The activities focus on the ways in which self-calming strategies can be used to manage stressful situations. Building students understanding around stress management is important so that students;

  • Recognise optimistic and pessimistic thinking styles
  • Recognise positive and negative self talk
  • Identify when they are feeling stressed, what happens to their bodies and how to implement strategies to self soothe and calm the body down

We know that stress is a normal part of life, especially as children get older. Assisting students to recognise their personal signs and symptoms of stress and to develop strategies that will help them to deal with those effectively may help them cope with challenges in the future.
