Principal's Message

By Jenny Hassett

Welcome Back

A huge welcome back to everyone. I hope the holidays were a bit restful and that everyone is a little recharged. It hasn’t been the start to the new school year I expected, but I guess we now are all use to the unexpected.

A very special welcome to our new prep students and parents. Hopefully you will all enjoy your time in our Rollins community. Please feel free to make contact with us anytime and we will support you in any manner we can, as you merge into our school community.

Many thanks to all our current parents who have been so supportive as we move back into the school year. The way you have all abided by our requests re buildings, masks, gates,  RAT tests etc. has been amazing. We are all working so hard to keep everyone safe in our community and keep all our students healthy and at school.

New Staff

We have a number of new staff members who are joining us this year and we sincerely welcome them. I know you will love our school and contribute in numerous ways to support our parents and students.

Welcome to you all

COVID Update

As you could imagine things tend to change on a regular basis with COVID and sometimes I don’t know in advance of the Victorian updates. Wherever possible, I will try to keep all parents informed so we can continue to work together. Please feel free to give me a call if you need clarification or have a question that has not been answered on COMPASS. Remember COMPASS is our main form of communication, so it is important that you keep updated with this App.

Information Needed if Positive Case

If any member of your family happens to test positive please contact the school and we will walk you through the process.

Everyone should have collected their RAT tests by now. Please continue to test twice weekly as this will help to ensure we are able to keep everyone as safe as possible. There will be another distribution of tests in week 3.

Canteen

The canteen will reopen in 2022 on Monday 7th February- until then students will need to bring their own snacks and lunches. Icy poles will be on sale every day until the canteen reopens and then every Tuesday and Thursdays when there is no canteen.

Tree Gone!

A requirement of the Education Department is a regular tree audit . We again did this late last year and unfortunately the large tree in the synthetic turf near the senior toilet block was identified for removal in the near future. Once it had been identified,  I arranged to have it removed over the school holidays to ensure the safety of all students. It was really sad to see it go as it provided a great deal of shelter for our students. I have already purchased another tree and as soon as the stump is “ground out” we will plant the new one.

2022 Parent Agreement / Permissions and Student Information Profile

Please be aware that your consent is required for various aspects of your child's schooling. These are annual permissions (e.g photos, local excursions etc) that we require for all children and are now available by logging onto Compass for each child.

Also available is a Student Information Profile to help our classroom teachers meet the individual needs of your child in the classroom.

Rollins School Council Elections

Our first School Council meeting will be on 28th February 2022.  This will also be the first meeting of our new school council.

We have several parents who  completed their term of office last year:

Jasmina Blagojevic

Davina Reid

Alison Smith

Bernie Ward

Many thanks to these members for their valuable contribution to our school. They have all been an integral part of our school community and have contributed in numerous ways to assist with the smooth running of our school.

I would like to specifically thank Jasmina and Bernie for their efforts over the years. They both have students who have now transitioned to secondary school- all the very best for the future.

We will now seek expressions of interest for the 4 vacant parent positions. Please contact the office for the various nomination forms.  They will be available on Monday 7th February. Nominations will close at 4pm on  Monday 21st  February. There will be nomination reminders posted around the school. Please contact the office if you would like more information.
