Advent has begun! You may have already noticed Christmas decorations, a nativity scene or an Advent wreath in your travels.

While it is a time of finishing up the school year, packing things away and saying good byes, it is also a time of great preparation. For some that may be preparing their travels, house or menu for a great Christmas day feast. For many it is the time each year we prepare for the birth of Jesus Christ.

As each year level has concluded the academic year, they gathered to begin this preparation. At each liturgy the College Advent wreath was lit. A symbol of the four weeks of waiting and the themes of hope, peace, joy and love. We heard The Christmas story adapted from the Gospel of Luke. Jesus’ birth marked a very special time in history and this was honoured by the Three Wise Men who each gave Jesus a precious gift- gold, incense and myrrh.

Christmas is known as a time of giving. Sometimes we get so caught up in finding the perfect gift or hoping for something that we miss the chance to give of ourselves. Christmas is a time to give to others and put those in need first, ahead of yourself. This selfless giving is the true essence of Christmas. To give without receiving, to give without expecting anything in return is how we show our love to others.

I wish our entire community a Christmas filled with hope, peace joy and love.
