Subject Information Evening
As per the College calendar, the Year 10 2024 and Year 11 2024 Subject Information Night will be held on Tuesday 30 May. A letter to current Year 9 and 10 parents will be emailed home in the coming weeks with timelines around the 2023 subject selection process.
Nathan Wallis – Neuroscience Education
Marist College Ashgrove is fortunate to have secured Nathan Wallis to present to our parent community on Wednesday 14 June at 5:30pm. Nathan is a neuroscience educator who will discuss with us everything about the teen brain. Keep an eye out for further details and booking information.
Year 12 Unit 3 Report Cards were released to students and parents last week. As with all Year 12 summative results, the marks included in these reports are provisional until confirmed by QCAA. Year 12 Academic Interviews will be scheduled for commencement from Monday 22 May. More information about booking these interviews will be emailed to parents in the coming weeks.
As per the College calendar, the Year 11 exam block will be from Monday 15 - Friday 19 May. Please ensure these dates are kept free from specialist appointments or other outside-of-school events for Year 11 students. The exam block timetable with rooming allocations will be emailed to students and parents this week.
Year 11 students only need to attend school if they have a scheduled exam - they must arrive in time for their exam and leave at its completion. However, if your son has not submitted an assessment or completed the tasks to a reasonable standard, he will be required to remain at school over this exam block to catch up on this work. This is particularly relevant for boys who are behind their timelines for completing Certificate modules. If this applies to you, you will be contacted via email before the exam block. Expectations during the exam block are as follows:
If a student is absent for an exam during exam block a medical certificate will be required along with a completed Request for Reasonable Adjustment form which can be collected from Studies Office. If you have any questions regarding this exam block, please contact curriculum@marash.qld.edu.au
The assessment Planners for Term 2 have been released onto Parent Lounge. Please navigate to Parent Portal to access these calendars.
A reminder that students can also access their assessment due dates via student café. Once in Student Café, select Activities to Complete and then See All. This will show all assessment items with draft and final due dates. Students are encouraged to transfer these important dates into their college diary so they are organised for their assessment throughout the term.
If your son has misplaced his College diary he will need to purchase a new one through the Monitor app on Parent Lounge.
Students wishing to change subjects at the end of Unit 1 will need to visit the Academic Care Team (via the Studies Office) anytime between now and Week 8. Please note these subject changes will not occur until the start of Unit 2.
Our Year 10 students are currently working on the preliminary work for SET planning in Workplace Skills lessons. I encourage parents/carers of our Year 10 students to engage in conversation with your young men, to assist their forward planning. The subject selection evening mentioned above will be the official start of this process, but we encourage students and families to start investigating future pathways and what may need to happen to allow them to get there. Again, a letter will be sent home to parents outlining the subject selection process.
