EDUCATION WEEK

Welcome to Education Week which runs from Sunday 14 May to Saturday 20 May. To celebrate at Wembley, we are focusing on the theme 'Active Learners: Move, Make, Motivate' throughout the week in classes.

A reminder to families that as part of Education Week, we invite you into our classrooms on Friday 19 May, between 9:00am and 10:00am (session 1) for an open morning to celebrate the learning that our students are engaging in. You will be able to gain insight into how a regular morning in your child's classroom runs, and see the ways in which we engage our students in their learning.

We hope that you can make it!

EDUCATION SUPPORT STAFF DAY

Our ES staff are invaluable members of our community, and today on ES day we honour and thank them for their significant contribution to the students, staff members and parents at Wembley Primary School.

Our ES staff support us in classrooms, the office, the yard, the IT room and around the school to keep us safe, healthy, learning and having fun.

Some ES staff aren't pictured here however we acknowledge all ES staff at Wembley PS.

CURRICULUM DAY - 6+1 Writing Traits

On Wednesday 17 May is our 6+1 Writing Traits Curriculum Day. We thank members of the executive leadership team for researching, planning and facilitating such an engaging day of professional learning for our staff.

Thank you Katie McClue, Melanie Irons, Joel Magnabosco, Renee Johnson and Adriana Jankulovski. We are incredibly proud of how staff collaborated around the learning and look forward to the seeing the engaging lessons and writing pieces that will be inspired.

MOTHERS DAY

Wishing our mothers, grandmothers and special people a wonderful mothers day. We hope you enjoyed the breakfast in bed, hand written cards, mothers day stall goodies and cuddles.

We are sending love to our Wembley community members who may have found Mother's day challenging either in longing for a family member or experiencing difficulty in any way.

We thank Kate Allen and the wider WPA volunteers for planning and serving within our Mothers Day Stall which was a great success!

Thank you to those parents that were able to attend the Prep and Year 1 Mothers Day and Special Person's mornings, and to the staff for coordinating these events.

CLASSROOM HELPERS

THANK YOU! It was has been wonderful seeing parents and carers in and around the school helping in the classroom and across the school. We thank the parents that are able to help our students and staff members with learning, preparation, administration, School Council, and various school events.

Teachers sent out information inviting classroom helpers into the classroom, with information regarding a Working with Children's Check. If you have any questions, please contact your child/ren's classroom teacher/s and/or the office for more information.

CAPITAL BUILDING WORKS

We are making progress in our Capital Works Building Project.

We thank the JohnStaff Construction Services Team for prioritising and utilising the holidays to do high impact works, with the grounds being reinstated, and the prep playground returned to us for the start of term. We're told the tiger turf near the prep playground will be reinstated soon, covering the crushed rock which has been laid as a temporary solution.

As a result of the gas relocation, gas has been cut off temporarily. As most of the school is powered by electricity this has only impacted the gas heaters in the prep classrooms, 5C and in the specialist teachers office space. As a result, in the interim we ordered and have installed free-standing, economical heating units in each space.  A long term sustainable and economical solution is being researched by the capital works team and will be reinstated in the next quarter.

In the next month we will see the slab being laid and structural steel being brought onsite. Full steam ahead!

CROSS COUNTRY

Congratulations to our amazing students that participated in Cross Country on Monday 8 May. We thank Jonathan, Renee, Simon and James for their coordination of this event, and also thank the parents that attended on the day!

GRANT'S HELPERS

We would like to thank the various students that offer help to Grant as we maintain our buildings and grounds. Whilst some jobs and tools are not appropriate for students to assist with, with many others we welcome the help! Thank you to Grant and his team of merry helpers for assisting in maintenance around the school, this week and every week. These students willingly offer support and help during their break times and we very much appreciate this sense of pride and demonstration of our school value of respect.
