Years 5/6

Our class has been completing a novel study on the text, 'The Dunera Boys'. This text is about 2500 Jewish refugees that arrived in Sydney on board the 'Dunera' during the Second World War. Because of their "enemy" nationality, they had been sent from England to be interned in Australia. Later, this group became known as the Dunera Boys. Over time, they made a lasting contribution to Australian society. They have become an important part of Australia's multicultural history.

The students have been discussing the text and answering questions to show their deeper understanding of the text.

We have had Mr Nic Oates, the district co-ordinator for Somers Camp visit the school on Monday to meet the students that are attending. He answered their many questions and the excitement is definitely building with the students that are going.  NOT LONG NOW! Extra copies of the packing list have been sent home plus their last information note about travel details.

The class has begun their semester testing ready for reports that will be going home in the end of this term.  The students have completed their online maths and reading tests this week and it has been pleasing to see their growth in all areas since their last tests.

Next Thursday, Ms Adams from Baimbridge College (Year 7 Co-ordinator) will be here to speak to our students about transition and in particular the upcoming Year 5 trial day on the Tuesday 20th June.
