Principal's Notes

Dear families,

Education Week Open Day

Thank you to everyone that contributed to our open morning on Thursday as part of this year's celebration of State Education. Our school was filled with many families who came to see the school in action.  We are very proud of our school and our open morning was a great opportunity to show our school at work. The children were very proud to show their learning off to our special visitors. Thanks, as always to the families who provided such a lovely morning tea.

School Photos

Next Wednesday 24th May, we will have our school photos with Frank Monger from Mt Gambier. He will be arriving around 12 noon. All students received their individual order forms this week with payment instructions. Please return to school before or on the day if you wish to purchase photos. If you pay online you still need to record the receipt number and return the form to school.  Anyone that would like family photos can collect an order form from the office.

Please ensure all students are wearing their full winter uniform for the the photos.

Cross Country in Warrnambool

Congratulations to Justin Coates, Jack Quinn, Emma Thomas and Thomas Hurley for qualifying for the next level of Cross Country which took place today in Warrnambool at Reid Oval.  We are really proud of our students for tackling a tough 2km and 3km course against some very fast runners. We hope to have the results and some pics in next week;s newsletter.

Somers Camp

Not long till our seven campers head off to Somers Camp. We had Mr. Nic Oates, the district co-ordinator for Somers Camp visit the school on Monday to meet the students and answer their questions. The website is a great resource for looking at the camp and we look forward to seeing their video of the camp when they return.

Book Fair

Don't forget that our Book Fair will be held next Tuesday 23rd May - 8:30am to 9am. Students are allowed to purchase books on this day.  If parents are not attending, money can be sent in in an envelope with the amount they are allowed to spend written on the front.  If required, we can help out students after school with purchases as well.

Walk to school

Walk Safely to School Day was celebrated today. It aims to improve the environment and our daily exercise routines. Walking to school is the perfect way to start the day by getting some exercise and fresh air, ready to start school with a clear mind. As, this is always challenging for our students who travel to school via bus, we always celebrate this by going for a morning walk as a school instead. This morning, Miss Purnell led the way and even managed to spot an owl. Callie Leese also joined us for a great way to start to start our day.

National Volunteer Week 15-21 May

On behalf of the school community, I would like to say THANK YOU to all the incredible volunteers who help make our school a better place every day.  We appreciate all your time and efforts that you donate for our students.

Thank you

We have received a generous donation from the Cavendish Lions Club.  We are so thankful to this wonderful group of people who have continuously supported us for many years.  We are hoping to put this money towards a new laptop for the students.

A small way we could help them is by assisting in loading the paper truck on Sunday 4th June. Any help would be appreciated from 10am onwards.

Mrs Bell's Birthday

We wish our wonderful teacher Mrs Bell a very happy 60th birthday today.  We hope you have an amazing weekend away with your family.

Long Service Leave

This will be my last newsletter till midway through term three. I will be flying out very early Friday morning from Melbourne on a holiday around Europe. Miss Purnell will be Acting Principal in my absence.  If you need to contact the school for absences, bus changes etc. please message through the new app or contact the school directly by phone. The answering machine will be checked prior to buses departing.

I look forward to seeing everyone when I return.
