Informative Texts - Giant Pandas

This term, Year 3 have been learning about Informative Texts. This week, Year 3 has been heavily involved in the writing process - research, draft, edit, redraft and publish! Students have also been using a rubric to see how they can upgrade their writing. Have a read of some of our paragraphs about Giant Pandas.

Habitat

Giant pandas live in  a few mountain ranges in south central China. They live in Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces. They once lived in lowland areas but farming, forest clearing and other development now restrict Giant pandas to the mountains.

Appearance

Giant pandas up to 60 to 90 centimetres tall on all fours and 1.8 metres when they stand tall! Giant pandas can also weigh up to 113 kilograms. Their fur is black and white and their black markings are normally on their eyes,ears,legs and arms.

Reproduction 

Newborn Giant panda cubs are born pink, hairless and blind. They weigh 3-5 ounces and are the size of a stick of butter. At three months they start walking and at six months they can eat bamboo. At three weeks of age they grow hair and their eyes open at three weeks.
