Journeying Together in Christ

Dear Families,

A fortnight certainly goes very quickly – I hope the last two weeks have not been too busy for families, managing work routines, sporting commitments for children and other family events. We certainly appreciate the support of all families in organising their children to participate in various school events as well as other daily routines like listening to reading at home.

I hope Mother’s Day last Sunday was a day full of spoils for all our mums/grandmothers/special women in our lives. It is a great opportunity for us to show our appreciation and love for all they do for us. The weather certainly helped to make it a special day as well.

Mother’s Day Morning Tea

On Monday, 15th June, the Grade Six students prepared a special morning tea for their mothers/grandmothers/special women here at school. It was a great morning where the children helped to prepare and decorate the space, and prepare sandwiches. During the morning tea they pampered their mums and specials guests by serving food and a cuppa to them. A special part of the morning was the very first performance of the St Luke’s Choir as they sang a song about the love and care of our Mothers. The Grade Six children also created a short video where each child spoke of the special qualities of their mothers. A big thankyou to all who could attend. Thank you also to Mrs Austen, Mrs Liddell, Miss Monk and Mr Watts for organising and preparing the morning. A special mention to all the staff and parent volunteers who provided the slices and scones which were delicious.

School Advisory Group Update

The St Luke’s Advisory Board meeting was held last Tuesday night. At this meeting, the role of Advisory Board Chair was officially handed over by Sath Saranathan to Caitlin Alletsee. We congratulate and wish Caitlin all the best with this new role.

Sath has been in the role of Advisory Board Chair for a number of years. We thank Sath for his commitment to this role and the school community as a whole. Sath will continue on as a member of the Advisory Board this year.

Kate Moroney has been a member of the board for a number of years as well. Kate is going to step down from the Board. We thank Kate for her commitment to the group over this time.

At this meeting we also welcomed Melissa Hudson to the group. Melissa’s experience working in Education will be valued as a member of the group.

Grade 3/4 Camp

A very exciting time coming up next week for our Grade 3/4 children who will be attending camp. Already the children are excitedly talking about what they might do on camp and what they are looking forward to. Thank you to Mr Sait for all your preparation and time in organising the camp. It will be a very memorable experience for the children.

Parents, please check the information sent to you by Mr Sait and classroom teachers as it has all the details required for preparing the children for camp.

National Simultaneous Story Day

Next Wednesday is National Simultaneous Story Day. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. As a school we will be taking part in this to help promote a love of reading and literacy. The book for this year is called ‘The Speedy Sloth.’ We look forward to taking part in this event.

Special Visitors – Catholic Education Week

In recognition of Catholic Education Week, we are going to hold a special visitors morning on Monday 29th May from 9:15 am – 10:50 am (the date is later because of the busy nature of the next few weeks).
