Blessed Edmund Rice
We acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land, the Cameraygal people and the many Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander people who have served and defended this country.
With the feast day of Edmund Rice celebrated in over 40 schools across Australia and hundreds of schools throughout the world this week we thank Student Leaders Michael Fakhoury, Oliver Lenehan, Adam Greenwood and Will Oner for leading our celebration at Assembly on Monday.
I make particular mention of Old Boy Brothers Carl Sherrin and David Curtin who taught thousands of students through their teaching careers in rural and suburban NSW, in the footsteps and following the charism of Edmund Rice. Carl works as our College Archivist but is in isolation at his Waverley Retirement Home, while David is isolating at the Mulgoa Retreat Centre.
Live Jesus in their hearts forever.
On advice from the Australian Curriculum Authority (ACARA) and NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), we have been directed to code any student doing remote online learning as “F” for Flexible Learning. It may indicate on the portal that students are absent, but this won’t be recorded as an absence on our records. As we are progressing to a system where we will have some students learning at school and some students learning from home, we have to distinguish between the two places of learning, hence the need for this change. All students should communicate their attendance to their teachers online each day in homeroom and each lesson so that we can record this attendance as we transition back to face to face teaching.
On Friday when we celebrate Mother's Day I thank Student Leaders Lachie Mathie, Daniel Fileman and Harrison Wallace for leading our celebration of this significant event at Assembly on Friday.
We wish all our Mums a special weekend, and hope our students rise to the occasion with some form of treat such as breakfast in bed for Mum!
In a few weeks’ time we will celebrate Reconciliation Week and recall the work of our students on the Red Dirt Immersion to rural and remote areas of NSW this time last year. I am proud to report that we received communication and a certificate this week from the NSW Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Veterans Services Association thanking our Year 9 students for their promotion of ANZAC and Indigenous Veterans Commemorations posters.
Below is the work of Evan Ausling, produced for the commemoration.
