Prayer for the Feast of Blessed Edmund Rice
We gathered on Tuesday this week as a faith community to remember the life and work of Blessed Edmund Rice and his legacy – The Christian Brothers. May his vision live on through the efforts and self-sacrifice found today in the staff and students of Edmund Rice schools throughout the world. As each community lives by our four touchstones, may we bring to life Edmund’s desire that we “Give to the poor in handfuls”.
And so we pray:
Creator God, on this special day of celebrating the vision and work of Edmund Rice, we pray as one.
Help us to look out our window and see those most in need in our community.
Let us clean our own lens so that we look out through love, with love and to love.
Bring clarity to our vision and purpose to our action.
Inspire us to always choose courage over comfort, choosing for the good of all, not some.
Guide us to pay attention to the personal story of each individual, fostering the respect, honesty and compassion that help transform lives.
Help us to always remember that providence is our inheritance.
Blessed Edmund Rice – Pray for Us.
Live Jesus in our Hearts – Forever!
I congratulate the Year 12 students who prepared a beautiful prayer and video clip for the College for Monday’s Assembly to start the week. I thank Year 12 leaders, Oliver Lenehan, Will Oner, Michael Fakhoury and Adam Greenwood for their preparation of this excellent resource which we will no doubt use for years to come. Please enjoy this excellent YouTube presentation.
Mother's Day
Next Sunday is Mother's Day and I wish all mothers and grandmothers a very Happy Mother's Day. We love and cherish all the special ways that our Mums show their love for us and we have a great tribute prepared by Year 12 that we will show this Friday morning as part of our Assembly. On behalf of the students, I invite all mothers and grandmothers to join with their son to watch this tribute. In Woodchatta next week, I will share the link to that tribute and a special prayer for mothers.
Once again, let me say to all our Mums “We love you and truly thank you”!
Week 3 - Students Commence Classes
The program for Term 2, Week 3 is below. We will be carefully monitoring this program with a view to increasing to a full return to face to face teaching. This plan remains under active consideration and review.
Progressive return to face to face teaching
The full plan for the progressive return to face to face teaching is attached, as published last Friday.
Thank you from College Vice-Captain
I share with you now a message of thanks to all staff at the College from Tyson McCallum, one of our College Vice-Captains.
As we are all returning to school in the next few weeks, after the events of the Coronavirus pandemic, I would like to say a massive thank you to the teachers and staff on behalf of the students of SPX. We realise it has been a hard time for us all, but especially our teachers with many of them learning about Microsoft Teams and video conferencing with students for the first time. The online learning has been as stress-free as can be and the students recognise that this is because of the hard work and dedication that all of our teachers have been putting in behind the scenes. So from all the students of St Pius X College, thank you to our teachers and the staff behind the scenes and we look forward to coming back to school shortly for face-to-face learning!
Thank you.
Tyson McCallum, College Vice-Captain
Online P & F Meeting, Monday 11 May,
7.00 pm - 8.00 pm
Next Monday, 11 May, we are going to hold our first ever online P & F Meeting, using the same online program that the students use, which is Microsoft TEAMS. All parents will receive an invitation to join the meeting by email on Friday 8 May and you can join the meeting from 7.00 pm - 8.00 pm on Monday 11 May.
We will be recording the meeting and I will make the recording available to all parents through next week's Woodchatta.
The Agenda is published in the P&F News section of this Woodchatta and can also be found on the College App.
Year 11 Parent Teacher evening - 18 May - postponed
Due to the need for social distancing with adults and the timing of the parent/teacher evening for Year 11, we have postponed these meetings until later in the year.
Parents are very welcome, however, to contact their son's teacher in Year 11 should they have any concerns and teachers have been asked to contact parents if there is a specific concern about any individual student. Any Year 11 parent is always welcome to contact the Year 11 Coordinator, Mr Ticli, for further information: pticli@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au
COVIDSafe App
The Government is encouraging all of us to download the COVIDSafe APP. I have done so and encourage others to do the same. It is intended to help identify hotspots and enable a quick response. I understand the reservations some have due to privacy reasons and it is a personal decision.
