Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon

Jells Park Primary School will once again be running training sessions and encouraging students to partake in the 2020 Weet-Bix TRYathlon. This event is a fun way to encourage your kids to be active and enjoy fitness in a supportive and friendly environment. Students interested in participating are encouraged to speak to Mr. Small and listen out for any announcements about training times and days. Please see enrolment details above.

Please note – Students participating will need to organise independent travel and supervision (teachers will be there on the day, but cannot be responsible for individuals).

Summer Celebration Free Dress & Food Drive

Thank you from Tutaga PS in Samoa

The Rotary Club of Mount Waverley would like to pass on their sincere appreciation for the donation of desks and computers made to a local Samoan school by Jells Park Primary School earlier this year. Below is some of what the Principal had to say:

Our gifts have resulted in a remarkable change at the Tutaga Primary School,  1 of 8 on the island of Savaii, Samoa. Over the past 18 months the school enrollments have increased from 150 children to 307 since the introduction of the new equipment. There is now such life and enthusiasm in the school and there is now an effective School Committee lead by heads of families. Your interest in this distant school has totally changed the spirit of the school.

The school now has a Library and Computer Laboratory which is a matter of wonder to everyone on the island. It is the gift from Jells Park PS that has achieved this.

It is hard to convey the pride of a Level 1 student being lifted into a chair for the first time sitting at a table. It is not just the joy of having their own seat but the fact that someone far away in the rich and magical land of Australia is taking an interest in them and their school. It is such a change from sitting cross legged on a concrete floor waiting for a piece of paper to be passed along with a piece of pencil. Then leaning forward to copy from the blackboard on a sheet on the floor. The teachers feel that the chair and table improves work by 300%!!

This year our shipment included a computer for each teacher, making Tutaga PS unique on the island. The goods were all piled up in the assembly area and all the members of the School Committee attended. Finally the High Chief arrived. The children did not know where to look, at the High Chief, at the pale faced Rotary Representative or at the Gifts.

The International Committee wishes to thank Jells Park PS and James Holden.

Remembrance Day

The Principal

I am writing to advise that the Waverley RSL was able to collect $45 747.20 during this year’s Remembrance Day ‘Poppy’ Appeal, of which your school community’s contribution was $113.30.

The total funds raised will now be transferred to the Victorian RSL State Branch. Early in the New Year, 50% will be returned to us at Waverley to fund our local assistance to veterans and their families, whilst the remaining 50% will be used for veteran welfare at a state level.

Please accept my heartfelt thanks to you, your staff, students and parents for their contributions. It almost goes without saying that without our local schools we would be unable to continue providing welfare assistance to the extent we have to date.

I look forward to your continued assistance later next year when we conduct the 2020 Anzac Day Appeal.

Kind regards,

Grantley Woods

Mobile Phone Recycling

They’re Calling on You, endorsed by Zoos Victoria aims to raise awareness of the threats gorillas face from coltan mining, while raising money to support primate conservation and divert phones from landfill. Funds raised through phone recycling supports Zoos Victoria and Gorilla Doctors to care for wild gorillas.

Following on from 5BW’s Assembly on this campaign, we wish to advise our school community that we will be supporting the campaign and accepting phones. We accept all smart phones, mobile phones, tablets and associated accessories (such as chargers), in any condition.

We understand the importance of data security and recommend conducting a factory reset before donating phones.

Our drop off point is located in the office foyer.

Thank you for supporting gorilla conservation. We look forward to receiving your phones for recycling.
