DRAMA MATTERS

DRAMA SHOWCASE

Congratulations to all students who performed at the Drama Showcase last Thursday night. All students conducted themselves in a professional manner and the quality of the work was excellent. It was wonderful to see the Year 7 students perform alongside the Year 11s. The range of talent we have at the college is very exciting. The future of the performing arts is very bright indeed. 2020 will be the first year we have more than 20 students taking Drama as an elective subject in Year 9. We will also continue our successful expansion of the Drama Ensembles with the three separate classes for next year.

Junior Ensemble: 7.30 am - 8.30 am Friday morning (Year 5 & 6)

Intermediate Ensemble: 3.30 pm - 4.30 pm Thursday afternoon (Year 7 & 8)

Senior Ensemble: 3.30 pm - 4.30 pm Monday afternoon (Year 9-12)

Actors @ Twilight

Congratulations to all students involved in Twilight last Friday. What a joyful celebration it was. A particular mention to the actors who read their poems so beautifully: Jordan Hill, Taylor Alan and Michael Krizan. The Two Wise Men, Daniel Halverson and Louis Brockwell were our hilarious MCs. Adam Hawthorne as Santa and Will Turner our new Performing Arts Captain, all helped to bring the items together and link each act brilliantly. Well done to all involved. Merry Christmas to our wonderful community, of students, teachers and parents. Thank you to PAPA for all of their help this year. See you in 2020!

Year 7 Monologues

Year 7 have written some excellent Monologues this week.  Please see attached document for a sample of their great work.

The Perfect Aussie Christmas

Twilight Concert Defines the “Get Amongst It” Culture of St Pius

Lit by fairy lights, and united by a need to help out with drought, approximately 400 people joined Pius musicians, actors and dancers to celebrate Christmas's true purpose last Friday night.

Crowd numbers swelled at this year's Twilight at Christmas Concert as Pius families, Wise Men, Angels and Santa Claus gathered to sing songs, share the festive spirit and show solidarity to our regional farmers. With poetry readings, dance, drama, singing, costumes, instrumental performances, face painting, gelato, and a PAPA BBQ, everyone enjoyed this community event.

A highlight of the evening included our newly elected 2020 Performing Arts Captain, William Turner and Vice Performing Arts Captains, Adam Hawthorne and Luke Galati being presented by Mr Couani. We know they will do a fine job in these roles of service and leadership.

Our sincere thanks to the staff and parents who gave up their time to support our Performing Arts Stars. With many staff dressing up and taking part, the notion of life-long learning was evident. A massive thanks to the PAPA Committee for their amazing work with the logistics, food and heavenly decorations!

Thanks to the donations people made, we managed to raise $904.00 for St Joseph’s Primary School, Walgett. We hope this money can be used to help this drought stricken community enjoy Christmas.

As the year draws to a close, we take this opportunity to thank the following teams of people who have supported the Performing Arts Program of our School:

  • St Pius X College Principal, Mr John Couani, College Leadership Team and Staff for their immense support in shaping creative minds and thought leaders of the future.
  • The Performing Arts Parents' Association (PAPA) for their ongoing investment in our students, encouraging them to reach for the stars
  • The SPX maintenance team for their highly intelligent and impactful contribution to the aesthetic culture of our school.
  • The administration staff of St Pius who nurture, promote and connect students, staff, parents and community.
