Motivated to win

Congratulations to our Year 7 Scientists

Year 7s 2017

Normally, the end of the year means no more major projects, but not for  Year 7S 2017! Motivated to win the competition for the best innovative design, our Year 7S Scientists set out to conduct research and collaborate with other class members to create the most accurate and informative model of the Solar system.

Over the course of two weeks, extensive research had been undertaken so that on 15 December (which just so happened to be the last day of school), students could present their work!

To ensure that students in Year 7S could receive meaningful feedback, the projects were presented to Dr Sood’s HSC Physics class. The collaboration allowed the Year 12 students to walk around and observe the projects as well as ask important questions. This is where Year 7 students could demonstrate their knowledge on the concepts learnt over the weeks. After the HSC students had an opportunity to observe all the designs, a vote taken so that a winner could be announced. Dr Sood’s HSC class had been impartial to the voting, however, they had some amazing things to say:

“The solar system projects designed by the year 7s were creative and amazingly constructed! As a year 12 physics student questioning the students on their specific designs, I found that the year 7s held their ground under pressure and were very proud of their achievements. Well done year 7 for such a passionate approach towards scientific intrigue!” – Sheralle Kumar Year 12 Physics student, Senior Leadership team

“I was lucky enough to be able to judge the solar system models of Ms Ali's Year (insert number) class. Overall, I was impressed by the design of the projects and the effort most groups put into it. Majority of their models were scientifically correct which was very good to see. There were some bright kids who were able to answer hard-hitting questions and showcased their knowledge on our solar system. The students were also lovely and nice which is always good to see in a classroom environment".  Rayna Deo Year 12 Physics Student,  Senior Leadership Team

“The models were accurate with minimal error to change. The Year 7's managed to answer many questions that were given to them with ease.” Vincent Nguyen Year 12 Physics

The Year 7 students presented their projects with pride, accompanied with a strong sense of scholarly accomplishment. The class designed their models with scientific integrity, a competitive strive for success, a curiosity for the subject and a passionate approach towards teamwork.

Well done, Year 7!  Although everyone in 7S was a winner for demonstrating their stellar designs and scientific knowledge, the winning team was announced. Congratulations to Maximus Ngor for being the head of creative design and his team mates Correy Wu, Jason Van and Tommy Nhottivong for their contributions.

The detail within the model and the knowledge demonstrated in the Q&A portion of the marking was astonishing!

The boys received their prizes and the models are now on display in the science labs to inform others as well! Well done 7S 2017!
