SDSSA Hot Shots Champions

CONGRATULATIONS to our Boys team who took out the Champions Pennant in the SDSSA Hot Shots Competition held at Nottinghill Tennis Club last week. Our Girls were Runners Up, so both teams advance to the MW Divisional Competition. Huge thanks to all the parents who came along to support the kids.

A massive thankyou to all the parents who have come along to help this term. The kids love showing their parents their new skills.  Please let me know if your circumstances have changed and you would like to help out next term.

Student Voice

Student voice acknowledges that students have unique perspectives on learning, teaching, and schooling, and should have the opportunity to actively shape their own education.

Student voice involves students actively participating in their schools, communities and the education system, contributing to decision making processes and collectively influencing outcomes by putting forward their views, concerns and ideas. We deployed student 'choice' into this weeks PE program, being the last week of Term 3. Dodge Ball, Basketball, Kickball, Netball & Soccer were all very popular choices amongst most year levels.

No Hats, No Play

Now that Spring is well and truly in the air, we are starting to see a rise in the uv levels. Remember to slip on a hat, slop on some sunscreen, slap on a shirt, seek some shade, and slide on some sunnies!

From the first day of Term 4 hats are required to be worn when outside. If you need a new hat, they are available from PSW, the Uniform Shop at Mt Waverley or the Office (bucket hats only at the office). Students without hats will be asked to sit in the shade at playtime for their own protection. Remember - NO HAT NO PLAY!

Walktober

SSPS is excited to be taking part in VicHealth’s Walk to School during October. Walk to School encourages primary school students to walk to and from school every day in October to highlight the ways walking improves children’s health and wellbeing. Walking to school is a great way to help kids achieve the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity each day.

We’ll be encouraging families and students to walk to and from school as often as possible during October to help students learn healthy habits for life. Teachers will use classroom calendars to record each time students walk to and from school. VicHealth offers some great prizes to schools with high participation, and runs fun walking themed competitions for students throughout October.

We’ll be providing parents with an ‘Information sheet for parents and guardians’ with all the information you’ll need about Walk to School. You can also visit the Walk to School website for more information: www.walktoschool.vic.gov.au

There are lots of ways families can get involved. You might like to:

  • walk with your child to and from school and enjoy the chance to talk, help your child learn road safety skills, and get to know the local neighbourhood together
  • arrange for your child to walk with other families or friends, giving them time to socialise and share their journey
  • drive part of the way to school and walk the rest, particularly if you live a long way from school, or have limited time
  • mix it up – if your child enjoys riding their bike or scooter, that’s great too!

Bike Ed

This will recommence on Thursdays from Week 1 next term. The holidays are a great time for Year 4’s to practise the skills they have been learning. Just like learning to drive, many hours of practice are required to become proficient bike riders, who are able to ride safely on the road.

Happy Holidays

For the many of you going away during the school holidays, I wish you a safe and happy trip. If you are spending the time at home, I hope you are able to get out and about, so as to enjoy the Spring weather and our wonderful city.

If you want to borrow any sports equipment for the holidays, please see me after school tomorrow.
