Jacqueline Buchanan

Hong long have you been at Clayfield College?

8 years - since Year 5

What sports do you play at Clayfield College?

I play Softball, Football and Athletics.

What is your favourite sport?

Football and Softball. I love all sports, but the atmosphere at Clayfield with these sports is the reason I play every year. I love the early morning smiles and the pure joy and support you get from participating in sport at Clayfield.

What is your message for the class of 2022?

We understand that during your final year, study and academic success is extremely important. However, as leaders of the sports executive this year, we strongly believe in the benefits of physical activity, not just for the mental and physical health benefits but also for improved academic success. In saying this, my message for the class of 2022 is to continue participating in sports and enjoy your final year of QG. Have fun, make memories, and form a relationship with physical activity so that you stay active for life.

What is your message to all the Year 6 students coming into Secondary School (in regards to sport)?

To the Year 6 students, I can't explain how much you can learn from sport and the types of relationships you form in sport. It's your first year of high school, have a go. Try as many activities as you can and find sports and physical activity that you enjoy. I hope to see you all thriving in High School next year :)

What are you planning on doing after school?

After school, I plan on becoming an Elite Athlete. It has been a life-long dream of mine to compete at the Olympics. On the other hand, I would love to study Physiotherapy to stay in sports as long as possible. Throughout my schooling life, I have developed a love of P.E. and Biology which I would love to continue after school.

What has been your favourite sporting moment at Clayfield College?

My favourite sporting moment at Clayfield was when our Year 9 softball team won the premiership. It felt good not only to win but to also have fun and play with some of my best friends.

The initial QG swim team list has been posted as a result of the College Interhouse Swimming Carnival. This team list is just a guide to let girls know they may be selected in the final team and therefore should attend training and both warm-up meets. Unfortunately, last week the meet had to be cancelled mid-way through the first event, 50m Freestyle. Fortunately, most of our girls got to swim in this one event, so we have a few new times for those girls. The final QG team list that will be posted on Monday will be based on the recorded times we have for all girls. As per QG by-laws, we must enter the fastest students from A division through to D in each event.

All girls listed are strongly encouraged to attend this Friday's warm-up meet so we can get further times for all events and thus select the team. In addition, our swimming captains are preparing fresh, delicious pasta meals for all swimmers going to Friday's meet. If your daughter has not done so please, add your name to the Croc Board list or drop into the Sports Office on Friday morning to add your name to the meet list.

Time: 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm
Transport: A commercial bus will depart Bayview Tce @ 3:30 pm and return at approx 7:00 pm
Food: A pasta meal will be provided prior to leaving.  Thanks agian to our swimming captains and their families for doiung this. This week, there are no canteen facilities, so girls are encouraged to bring extra food and full water bottles.

There is no admission charge into the Aquatic Centre; however, a ticket must be obtained to enter. No ticket, no entry. Spectators will be required to remain in their allocated seats throughout the event and wear a mask at all times (unless eating or drinking).

Live-stream Production

This year's event will be live-streamed with an enhanced production and commentary team.  This year's event will include the dynamic commentary combination of:

  • Joel Murray - Commonwealth Games and Triathlon commentator
  • Bronte Barratt - St Margaret's AGS Alumni, triple Olympian, and member of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Organising Committee (Olympic Athlete Representative)

The Clayfield College Boarding House will once again host the CC Live Stream Event, where all secondary girls are invited to the Boarding House to watch the championships and have afternoon tea and dinner provided. Full details about the event will come out on the College app and Daily Notices over the coming days.

The live stream coverage will also include key interviews with staff, students, coaches and special guests. To access the live stream, please click on the below button.

QGSSSA Cross Country

The Cross Country team headed to Victoria Park for its first official park run this week. We want to foster a Monday morning run that focuses on fun social interaction and is inclusive to new and experienced runners. At the start of every run, we encourage individuals to share an inspirational quote; this week was,

"If it doesn't challenge you, it won't change you"
Fred Devito

Our run followed the lush grass around the golf course perimeter and challenged us all with some very steep inclines. At the conclusion, we all sat down in the bistro to enjoy a well-earned breakfast.

Next week we will be running around the New Farm Park area, so girls, find your running shoes and come along for fun. A copy of this week's schedule is below.

Monday          New Farm Park – Bus provided to and from the run venues (Girls MUST sign-up on the Croc Board by 1:30 pm on Friday)
Wednesday    At Clayfield College on the oval
Friday              At Kalinga Park – Bus to drive girls back to school

QGSSSA Softball

Both teams played great last Saturday despite the very hot and humid conditions, with the Senior A girls winning both games very convincingly. Our Opens Team were narrowly defeated in their first game and a draw in the second. Thank you to our Friends of Sport group, who provide icy poles every week for the girls. They were a very welcome relief from the heat between games to help our girls cool down. The results from these games are below:

Opens

CC        1          lost      Somerville House              2

CC        7          draw    Moreton Bay College       7

Snr A

CC        12        won     Somerville House (1)       7

CC        15        won     Somerville House (2)       3

We wish the girls well for this week’s games.

QGSSSA Cricket

The Week 5 fixture against St Margaret’s was cancelled again due to the rain and the fields not being available to be played on. Instead, our girls took part in another training session that specifically focused on bowling and batting techniques. Quite a few of the girls benefit from these additional training sessions and, therefore, become a lot more confident and competent in these aspects of their game. We are hoping next week’s game against Brisbane State High School at Fursen Rd will go ahead.

QGSSSA Gymnastics

Training continued this week for all of our QG gymnasts in preparation for QG, will be held in the College PE Centre on Tuesday 29 March. Clayfield has nominated 9 teams to compete in March due to our girls' strong interest and talent. Any further updates and the full training schedule can be found on the College app.

QGSSSA Football

All girls have now been sorted into teams and have commenced team training in preparation for the first-round fixtures, which begin on Friday afternoons in Week 7. Football has once again been very popular with the girls, and we have entered four teams into the QG competition.

QGSSSA Touch

Our Touch teams have had a few girls drop out, and as such, we are still looking for a few to strengthen the numbers in each of the three teams we have entered. If your daughter would like to give Touch a go this year, ask her to please drop into the Sports Office and discuss the requirements and add her name to this.

CC Volleyball Academy 2022

The Volleyball Academy will commence in week 7 of Term One with new Head Volleyball coach Vevin Mathew. The program will be run initially on Wednesday afternoons from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm. This program is a user-pay program and the cost per term will remain the same as in 2021, $90 per term.

All students interested in joining the academy in 2022 are asked to see the Sports Department staff and collect an application form. All students are welcome to join if they wish to excel in the sport of Volleyball.

Student Achievements

Tiana Kritzinger (Year 12) has just returned to school this week after being away at the Australian National Swim Camp last week. This is a wonderful achievement for Tiana, who hopes to one day compete for Australia on the world stage. Tiana said it was a very “full-on” experience; however, she loved the whole camp and being able to mix with Australia’s current elite swimmers was a true highlight.

We look forward to seeing Tiana compete for Clayfield College next week at the upcoming QGSSSA Swimming Competition.
