3/4 B

Week 8 Term 1

Education in Faith

This past week we have continued to look at different parables that Jesus told to help teach us about the importance of forgiveness. We have looked at The Forgiving Father, The Unforgiving Servant and The Lost Sheep. We have used a variety of different activities to help engage the students in these different parables. Below the students were required to act out a small part of the Parable of the Lost Sheep using a Freeze Frame technique.

We also looked at the Sacrament of Baptism. Some children were kind enough to bring in some photos of their own baptisms. We talked about the symbols involved in Baptism and the importance of Baptism in being initiated into the Catholic faith.

Maths

In Maths we have continued our unit on Shape. We have looked at both 2D shapes and 3D objects. We have delved into the different characteristics of different shapes and objects and engaged in a variety of activities that required the students to use their mathematical reasoning to explain their thinking. In the curriculum there is certainly more to learn than just the names of different shapes and how many sides they have! What is a regular shape? What's the difference regular and irregular? Is a square a rhombus? Which shapes have parallel lines?

Inquiry Project

Last week we started our Inquiry project. We will continue to work on this during class time (once we return from camp) and for the remainder of the term. The children will be required to create a fictitious creature that could survive in a particular habitat. They will also be required to make a diorama of that habitat. If you have any small boxes (shoe box?) lying around please set them aside as we'd love to use them for the dioramas in a week or two.

School Camp

Keep an eye on our week 10 newsletter for our 3/4 School Camp special. Hear and read about what the children enjoyed and see plenty of awesome photos. The Seesaw posts over the last few days hopefully gave you a short glimpse of their experience.

Bayside District Track Athletics

This year the Year 4 children will get their first taste of inter-school athletics at Ballam Park. Each year, the Year 4,5 and 6 children have the opportunity to run against children from other schools at the annual Bayside District event. This year the event will be held on Friday 1st April. Parents are welcome to attend to cheer on their children. Some of the events include 70m, 100m, 200m, 800m, hurdles and relays. Some children will run in multiple events. The Year 3s will stay at school and have the chance to run next year. A permission note to attend the event is coming home in the coming days.

Kind regards, Brendan.
