Duke of Edinburgh

As the Duke of Edinburgh Award Leader, I was able to give a presentation on the DoE Award to Year 9 students this week, where the girls learned about the nature of the Award and how it runs at Brigidine College.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a youth development program that aims to empower its participants, aged 14-25, to explore their full potential and passions in a structured but independent manner.

For Year 9 students, they begin at Bronze entry-level. To achieve the Bronze Award each participant must devote time to the three components of Physical Recreation, Skills, Voluntary service and complete the Adventurous Journey; an overnight outdoor camp.

The Award encourages participants to help and engage with their community, explore new opportunities and learn to take responsibility for their goals. The Award is self-structured with guidance from the Award Leader, but very much focuses on the participant doing the work, making it a great program to encourage self-determination and life skills.

For any enquiries about the award, including how to register, opportunities for volunteering, and guidance in selecting activities for each component, can students please email me; Ms Whiteman, or visit T02 on Thursday lunch where I will hold optional lunchtime meetings.
