Magis report

This coming week sees the second round of the WADL season, with nine teams competing on Tuesday 29 March and out Novice 1 team having a bye. Debaters are reminded that they must have two fully-charged laptops ready, and should use the same log-in details as for round one wherever possible.  Teams with four or five members will change each week, but at least one reserve should attend on any debating night. This team member cannot communicate with members of his or her team whilst the debate is on. Good luck to all teams. Details are below.

Despite COVID restrictions the Magis-run House Mental Maths Challenge has progressed very well, with some superb performances in this challenge which requires very quick responses.  Congratulation to individual first placegetters Takahiro Yamada (Year 7), Joseph Nankivell (Year 8), Marco Zammuto and Matt Gardner (Year 9), whilst Joseph Kilcullen, Tom Syminton and Angus Furness were equal first in Year 10, as were Amerie Chai and James Mitchell in Year 11. Corado Fraulini  was the top scorer in Year 12. All year groups had exactly the same questions, and Joseph Nankivell (Year 9) recorded the only perfect score of  30/30.  Koolyangarra House won overall ahead of St Louis and Ward, but five of the six houses won a year section. Congratulations to all competitors – full results below.

Beware Shakespeare Club members!  They will be asking teachers, fellow students and parents or relatives to rank twelve of Shakespeare’s best sonnets over the next fortnight. Please support them with this initial research – the activity should take 5-10 minutes and will assist you to become a far more erudite person.
