The Library

Welcome back to the Library and a special welcome to those new to our school. It is great to see many students borrowing books, as well as using the library for study/computers at lunch time and after school in our Study Hall and Homework Club.

This year we are again participating in the school lunch time club program. Our Anime & Manga Club is on Tuesdays - students get to see our new Manga and Graphic Novel books, as well as being the first to borrow them! Students also assist the library team with selecting Manga and Graphic Novels for the Library. We then put on an episode of Anime for students to watch.

Chess Club is now on Fridays - new players are always welcome and we have many student expert chess players that can help you learn how to play.

Each day after school from 3:10pm to 5:00pm we run Study Hall and Homework Club. Students can come to the Library and use this time to catch up on school work, complete homework, use the computers for research or writing projects and assignments. On Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays support is available for Maths subjects. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays students can get support with Maths & Science.

Library staff are available to support students with research and using the computers/printer. Snacks are also available!

Library Lovers Day / Blind date with a book

In February we celebrated Library Lovers Day with a display and Blind date with a book. Students borrowed wrapped up books, not knowing what the book is or the title - only what the book genre is. Many students enjoyed borrowing something that they normally wouldn't borrow.

Water Wise & Choose Tap

This display focused on being water wise, as well as looking at what it takes to produce single-use plastic water bottles. It was great to see students take the initiative to pledge to reduce the use of single-use plastic water bottles and Choose Tap instead!

The library team put together a book display on Water, Recycling, and Waste Management.

Students who signed the pledge received a reusable water bottle, kindly donated by Greater Western Water.

Thanks to Mrs Somerton for the awesome displays that we have around the Library.

Scholastic Book Club

In 2022 we are again running Scholastic Book Club. Brochures come out twice a term and students are encouraged to collect a brochure from the Library Desk. Parents and Carers can also view a PDF copy of the latest brochure on the Scholastic Book Club website.

Book Club is a great way to encourage students to select books that interest them as well as creating a reading culture at home.

Books and gifts start from a few dollars. Parents & Carers complete orders online and books are distributed to students at school when we receive the orders from Scholastic.

Students can collect the latest Scholastic brochure from the Library Desk and parents/carers can also view a pdf version here: https://www.scholastic.com.au/book-club/book-club-parents/

Orders can be placed online here: https://mybookclubs.scholastic.com.au/Parent/Login.aspx

If students have any questions, they can speak to Mr DeLeon in the Library.

Introducing our Library Wellbeing Corner

This term the Library team have been busy creating our Library Wellbeing Corner. This space is for students to have somewhere for quiet reading, quiet time, and reflection.

In this area:

  • New magazines (coming soon), including Teen Breathe, K-Zone, Krash, Total Girl, and Mad magazine. When available, students will be able to borrow these magazines for 3 weeks.
  • Herald Sun daily newspaper. For reading in the library only.
  • Book collections including Biographies, Mind-Body-Spirit, and LGBTIQA+.
  • Posters for local community/youth events and programs.
  • Comfy seating including beanbags.

Thanks to Troy (from maintenance), and Wellbeing for their assistance in helping create this space.
