Principal's Message
Mr Forrest
We are still experiencing several reported COVID cases each week and all from a variety of year levels. We have had the following information passed onto us by the Department of Health.
Students who test COVID-19 Positive
Students who report a positive Covid-19 result must isolate for seven days and not attend school during that period. A positive test needs to be reported to the school on (03)5494 3011 and the Department of Health on 1800 675 398 immediately. A negative result is not required to return to school following completion of 7 days of isolation. However, if symptoms persist such as a sore throat, cough or runny nose please stay at home until well enough to return. A Rapid Antigen Test is not required for a further 8 weeks.
If you are a close Contact of COVID-19 Positive person
Siblings who live in the same household are considered a close contact (that is, they have spent more than four hours with someone who has COVID-19 inside a house) they must also isolate for seven days and not attend school during that period.
Students who are considered close contacts may return to school following their 7 days of isolation provided they have returned a negative RAT result. They must continue to conduct daily tests until all positive household contacts have completed their 7 days of isolation. Household contacts i.e. parents are now not subjected to rolling quarantine periods.
*Please note when you need further RAT tests to conduct extra testing please contact the school office and we will have extra kits sent out to you. Phone (03) 5494 3011.
At this stage until the end of Term 1 we are still encouraging Rapid Antigen Testing for students and staff twice weekly (on school days). Students should complete the tests at home.
Unfortunately, after following up with the Dept of Health and the Dept of Education they have confirmed with us today that only double vaccinated adults can attend the Deb Ball on Friday night next week. Students of Wedderburn College can attend whether they are fully vaccinated or not. We have also been informed that we are required to check everyone's vaccination status on the night, however there will be no QR code checks ins.
Yesterday all Primary Leaders had the opportunity to visit with senior representatives from the Loddon Shire. CEO Lincoln Fitzgerald, Mayor Dan Straub and Wedderburn Ward Councillor Gavan Holt gave the students a very informative talk about leadership and their personal journey of how they have become leaders in our local area. They were very lucky to sit in the councillors leather chairs and learn about how the councillors run meetings and make decisions. The student leaders were presented with a special certificate that recognises their positions at Wedderburn College in 2022. Ben and Ava then made a speech and presented the hosts with a Wedderburn College pen. We would like to thank the Loddon Shire for allowing us to visit the Shire Council Chambers and for giving us the time to learn about local government and leadership.
Before the Loddon Shire visit I was able to join our Foundation students and Playgroup in the park to see our special visitor.
We are aiming to have an abundance of prizes for our Eggnormous Easter Fete Mega Raffle. If you are able to donate eggs or chocolate, the Parents Association will make up prize bundles so everyone has a great chance to win. Raffle tickets have been sent home so please check for these. Eggs and chocolate donations can be left at the school front office. Last year this topped off the many highlights of the day. As a special incentive Mr Forrest will run a school day activity for the class who is able to donate the most prizes for the raffle. When dropping off your donation let the Front Office know which class you are from.
We are aiming to once again host a School Easter Fete on Friday 8th of April, the last day of Term1. With a reduction in COVID-19 restrictions we are hoping to be able to invite all parents and community members on site. The fete will begin at 10.30 am and conclude at 2 pm. There will be a VCAL catered BBQ followed by activities from each year level. Forms for the BBQ are being sent home shortly. Each year level is currently organising an activity for the day and once confirmed will be advertised. It will be a casual clothes day.
It's that time of year when we have our annual School Council elections. If you are interested in finding out more please contact the School Principal on (03) 5494 3011.
As you may be aware we are going to be able to offer Before and After School Care this year. We recently had our facility approved for use, we now have our staff in place.
It looks like we will be able to open our OHSC program at the beginning of Term 2.
A sign up sheet or expression of interest form will be distributed this week and will be due back by the end of Term 1. Priority places will be delivered for working parents and students with a disability. Places for full-time or regular day requested will be prioritised first and then depending on requests casual spaces may become available. Please remember this is a user pays service and when approved the Commonwealth Child Care subsidy/benefit can be applied for.
