Changes to routine can cause some young people to feel stressed, isolated and alone. Parent support is very important at this time.

Below is some information to help you support young people to stay in a healthy headspace in school holidays. There is also some information that may help you to identify when your young person might need some extra support and where to go for help.

Orchestra visit from Little Yarra Steiner School

We had an exciting visit from Little Yarra Steiner School (LYSS) Orchestra on Friday, 19 March.

The students from LYSS in year 9 and 10 participated in two workshops with Collingwood College students.

These workshops involved the students who are members of the Collingwood Chamber String Ensemble as well as senior students.

The day opened with an impressive Eurythmy Welcome to our visitors by Year 7, Year 8 and some Year 9 students.

The afternoon ended with a fantastic concert - Collingwood College and Little Yarra gave a wonderful performance of their workshop pieces. Matilda (yr9) and Sari (yr7) joined Steph (LYSS) at the microphone to sing a swinging version of "Sway". And Alkira (yr9) joined Steph with a solo leading the Ensemble in "Seven Sleepers Lie". We were also treated to an outstanding performance of some of Little Yarra's favourite ensemble pieces.

Everyone who participated had a fun time playing in a large group and enjoyed the challenge. Special thanks to LYSS's Damien, Celia and Jenny and to Collingwood's Naomi and Marguerite for a wonderful day.

Little Yarra students stayed overnight at our school and had a special morning the next day exploring the CBD and going iceskating. We are looking forward to Collingwood visiting Little Yarra in the near future.

Lunchtime Music Sharing

The last week of term included the first Lunchtime Music Sharing of the year.

Beautiful singing by Amber (yr9) and Heide (yr4) was followed by wonderful violin, viola, cello and piano playing.

An impromptu gathering of grade 3 and 4 students lead to an ensemble performance of "Twinkle" which impressed everyone.

The session ended with our Eurythmy teacher, Rie, treating the students to a special Easter offering of eurythmy.

Next term, there will be a schedule of Music Sharing and concert dates so that students will know in advance.

All students in the school are invited to express their interest in coming to play in this very informal setting.

Yarra - Communities that Care Program

1.       Setting the Yarra Communities that Care focus priorities for 2021 -24

At the Communities that Care Workshop held last year to review the 2019 Yarra Communities that Care Survey data (n=1072) and impact of covid-19, eight possible priority areas were identified. We are now in the process of seeking stakeholder input to decide on which three of these priority areas that will become the focus of Yarra Communities that Care’s work for the next three years. To do this we have created a quick survey: https://yoursayyarra.com.au/communities-care

Calling all Yarra 8 to 14 year olds and those who care for them…

We want to hear from you if you are 8 to 14 years old, or parent, service provider or educator of young people aged 8 to 14 years in the City of Yarra.

Please let us know what you feel is most important for us to focus on to best support young people’s healthy development over the next three years by completing this quick survey: https://yoursayyarra.com.au/communities-care

2.       Yarra City Council’s Youth-led Grants, applications are now open.
