Sustainability at SJV

This term at SJV, we have been focusing on improving our efforts at recycling and reusing in order to significantly decrease the amount of waste that ends up as landfill and to protect our environment.

Each classroom now has a bin for soft plastics, paper recycling, mixed recycling and landfill

Students have been learning about the importance of sorting waste correctly and how to put their waste in the right bin to reduce contamination.

Our next goal is to reduce the amount of waste we use. One way we can do this at school is through encouraging Nude Food. Nude Food is food that is not wrapped or packaged in things like foil or plastic. Durable and reusable containers are a great way to bring food to school which then reduces the amount of rubbish and waste we have.

Coming up next term we will be having Nude Food days across all classes on the same day. We encourage students to bring snack and lunch to school in their lunchbox with little or no packaging or wrapping. Nude Food days will be held on days when the canteen will be closed. Please keep an eye out for information on when our Nude Food days will occur next term.

Here are some examples of some students with Nude Food lunchboxes.
