Around the College

Thank You Ms Vogt
This week we say goodbye to Ms Heather Vogt as our Principal at Endeavour College. Heather has led the College since 2008 and has been instrumental in the College’s growth and development throughout the last 13 years.
Endeavour College has grown from 400 students in 2008 to 750 students and 98 staff this year in 2021. It’s not just about the numbers, throughout her time Heather has guided the team through changes in the pedagogy (models of learning) that has enriched the education of many students. As we have moved to a medium/large school there has been a need to change the internal structure within the school and Heather has led this with a new organisational structure being put into place.
Naturally as the College has grown we have needed to add infrastructure, Heather with the board, leadership team and Endeavour Association have proposed and seen to completion the Middle Years and Senior Years buildings. A clear strategic plan and recent changes in the constitution have also been key bodies of work that Heather has contributed to.
Heather has been a servant leader who is gracious with her time and sharing of knowledge with students, staff, families, supporting congregations and the board.
Heather has remained true to the mission of the College, developing young people for life and community. We will miss her calmness and expertise at the board table and wish to say thank you to Heather for her contributions to Endeavour College.
All the best for whatever comes next.
Yours in Christ,
Leanne Ridsdale

Space Forum
On Wednesday 31 March, students from a range of different year levels travelled to the city to attend the 11th Australian Space Forum. The Space Passport session provided the perfect opportunity for students and teachers to learn about current and future careers within the Space Economy and Industry.
The Space Passport sessions encouraged students to:
- Talk directly to companies currently involved with the Australian Space Sector
- Ask companies about current and future careers within their industry
- Find out about the school and tertiary pathways needed to enter these and related careers
We left the Forum in awe of the number of companies working in this area and the vast number of career opportunities that are evolving in this industry. The session left us inspired to develop the skills and knowledge to push forward the frontiers of scientific knowledge.

Chess Schools SA Tournament
Endeavour College fielded three teams in this year’s Chess School SA tournament held at Tyndale College. The secondary competition had its largest field for many years with seven teams competing. For the first time Endeavour College fielded a team of Year 7 students who were able to compete in the primary category. After seven rounds of competitive chess the senior team, comprising of Jaiden Spencer, Jacob Nitschke, Aidan Simmons and Naomi Schubert finished third and received bronze medals for their efforts. Naomi was also the highest ranked female player and was recognised with a Best Player medallion.
Our middle school secondary team, which was made up of students from Years 7, 8 and 9 including Hayley Cheng, Owen Purczel, Cameron McLay and Liam Williams finished 5th in their first ever competitive tournament. Our Year 7 team, comprising of Quintin Pham, Fergus Shermon, Maxwell Hitch and Yazid Hussan also competed as a group for the first time and took out second place in the Primary division and were awarded with silver medals for their efforts. It was a fun day of chess for all involved and a great lead up to our Endeavour Chess Challenge in Term 2 and the representative team competition to come in the South Australian Junior Chess League also in Term 2. As always, we welcome students across all year levels to get involved in our chess program, as it is both a rewarding experience and a great social outlet for all.
