Uniform Update

As we begin Term 2 and approach the colder part of the year, we remind all students that we are now in winter uniform and the following expectations are part of the process.

Students are able to wear either blue tights or long white socks with their winter skirt.

Students can also take up the option of wearing the school pants but if they take up this option then they must wear an emblemed shirt as well.

Hoodies are not part of the uniform at anytime. They are not to be worn to school including with the PE uniform.

PE uniform should only be worn on the days students have practical PE classes. Consequently, students who do not study PE should not be wearing the PE uniform at any time.

Some of our students, particularly Year 7’s, have had a problem with obtaining some of their uniform pieces from our Uniform supplier. These are the only students who have special exemption to the winter uniform at this time.

Health concerns

We continue to be challenged by COVID and while Australia seems to have returned to life that is almost back to normal we remind all members of our community of the need to continue to practice the key aspects of health protection that we have learned over the last 12 months.

This includes staying home and getting tested if you are feeling unwell or presenting any of the symptoms such as a runny nose or cough. Also continuing to practice good hygiene practices such as washing hands and using hand sanitiser frequently and not sharing items such as food utensils with others.

As we approach the winter months we are reminded of the challenge that we face in relation to other infections such as influenza and other air borne diseases. It is important to sneeze into your elbow or a tissue, washing hands frequently before touching food and especially after going to the toilet. Also, making sure that, as we share the school with another 900 people every day, we are doing our best to stay healthy and illness free.

Vaporing

We have been alerted by a Community Police of a worrying trend that we have also noticed, that of younger people having access and engaging in vaporing.

This means that these students have access to the device or implement that is used for vaporing,  commonly named as e-cigarettes.

We view this practice in the same way that we view smoking at school or whilst in uniform. Our response to anyone smoking at school or while in uniform will be an automatic suspension.

At upcoming assemblies we will remind students of the school expectations in regard to smoking and the use of e-cigarettes.

Peer Support begins for Year 7’s.

Now that we are at the start of Term 2 the Year 7 Peer Support Program will begin. There are a large number of  Year 10’s who are in the process of training in the program and who will be ready and able to support our youngest Year Level in feeling settled and supported in our school environment.

In later editions of the Marian, we will give you an insight into how the program is going.

Wellbeing

As we also approach Naplan and End of Semester exams we encourage our families to monitor their daughter’s in terms of the stress and concern that these activities may cause.

Responses can vary from being quiet, to tears to even changes in behaviour.

If you have any concerns in relation to this please do not hesitate in contacting your daughter’s homeroom teacher or Year Level leader to discuss your concerns and strategies can be put in place to support her.
