Faith and Mission

One of the enlightening aspects of being a member of a faith community is the opportunities to be formed in faith as well as developing an understanding as to how we connect with our local and global community. At the end of Term 1 we celebrated an Easter ritual that enabled us to reflect on the passion and death of Jesus and at the same time acknowledge elements within our community who are suffering today. Through word and  action students compared the stories of Jesus' time with the plight of the downtrodden today.

The Prayers of Intercession were powerful representations of this comparison.

Jesus gave his life because he challenged the discrimination of his society.  Over these next days, we remember his thirst for life, how he was arrested, tried and crucified, and how God raised him to life.  The flame of hope he lit stirs our belief that we can achieve a new and inclusive world - both here at school, in our families and society.   Let us pray.

 Jesus Remember Me

In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed.  In that place, Judas - one of his apostles - led the soldiers of the Temple to Jesus and betrayed him with a kiss.  He was arrested and taken to the High Priest.  Like Jesus, we walk in solidarity with those who suffer and so we pray for all those who are unjustly arrested or whose freedom is compromised.  All those whose human rights are ignored.

 Jesus Remember Me

Jews had no legal authority to try people and so the High Priest handed Jesus over to Pilate, the Roman governor.  Like Jesus, we seek change for a more just, equal and peaceful society.  We pray for all whose leadership challenges wrong-doing and unjust social and political structures - here at Marian and in all world communities.

Jesus Remember Me

Jesus was shamed and abused - he was stripped and whipped and had to carry part of the cross on which he would die, through the crowds on the way to Calvary.  There he was crucified and cried out, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit” before he died. We pray for all who have died.

Jesus Remember Me

During this Easter season we hear a great deal of the wonder of what God has done for us. We celebrate that Jesus is risen! As was celebrated at our Easter liturgy we join ourselves to Jesus and listen to what he is asking of us today.
