Year 5 News

The Year 5 Beach Program was a huge success and we had a wonderful day kayaking, exploring and collaborating in some team games. It was such a wonderful opportunity for students to step outside their comfort zones, learn a new skill and most importantly have some fun after so many cancelled events in 2020.

Here’s what the Year 5 students had to say about the day:

“I discovered that Neptune’s Necklace (a seaweed) can be popped and shot. I also discovered that starfish can have 11 legs.” Aidan, 5D

“My favourite part of the beach program was the rock pooling. I loved all the small shells and tiny fish. The seaweed was soft and wavy. I learnt that starfish can grow back their arms.” Sarah R, 5D

‘Yesterday was the best school day ever. We went to the beach at Rickets Point. We did lots of fun things but my favourite by far was kayaking. Inca, 5C

“For kayaking, we had to practice our paddling skills. You have to take the curved side facing you and pointy bit facing up. We also had to paddle on the same side as your partner.” Verity, 5C

(Playing a game called Foxholes) “The first thing we had to do was dig a hole, then once we finished the game started. I hid in my hole but got spotted first since I was in the front. It was really cool seeing everyone get up and switch holes.” Tom R, 5A

“Yesterday we had the beach program. We played flags, finding stuff in the sea and kayaking but my favourite was silent ball. It was my favourite day!” Liam, 5A

“The next activity was teambuilding. We had to make a path across a chocolate river to escape a volcano. You could not take your feet off the mat, even to readjust your feet.” Henry, 5B
